The Skonkworks is back! A "NKP" critter in progress

NOT Nickle Plate, rather No Known Prototype. I needed a set of cylinders for the Lombard, so I bought a 1st generation B’mann Porter off Mike Moran for $15

So now I had a (wimpy) chassis just sittin’ around doing nuthin’. A bit of digging in my scrapbox turned up a HLW mack hood that Vic had sent me a while back.

The motor box hanging off one end limited things a lot. I carved part of it away with a Dremel to make the Mack hood fit. but there’s still a HUGE amount of overhang - about 3/4" (3 scale feet) more than I really want, but there’s not a whole lot I can do about it.

To get the cab back closer to where it needed to me I had to add a plastic box to the front wall. We’ll say it’s the fuel tank, or maybe it’s a hydraulic oil tank?

The chassis with the cab floor in place.

A mock up with the cab. Not sure if I want the air tank there. I might replace it with a bell and put the tank on the left running board. To balance it out a bit more I’ll add a rear platform.

And that’s what things look like after 2 evenings of foodling with it. I think it’s really, really, ugly, but Kim says she likes it. I’m thinking of making it battery powered with a simple 3 position switch… and just let it trundle around with 1 car in tow (more than that and the cheese drive they put in these things probably won’t survive…).

I Like  !

I like your work.

Brings some Brooks and Baldwins to mind.

Hey Mik… did you see the reply someone left on your MLS thread? Just wondering if you had considered the idea?

No Jason, I haven’t. The post listing order over there has been farked up there for over a month. Shad says he “doesn’t have time” to fix it. If the bloody OWNER doesn’t give a rat’s ass about his board, why should I - and why should I waste 20 minutes searching for it?

Fair enough. To be honest, I thought it was something with my system over there. Give me a sec and I’ll c/p here.

Have you considered moving the rear (former front) axle? I have the same model, and I don’t think it would be hard to cut new axle slots and just swing the rods 180 degrees. That would put the motor between the axles instead of hanging out one end or the other.

Don’t know if this has progressed past where you could do this or not, but at least wanted you to see it… your ability to turn a cowpie into a dairy farm is beyond reproach and well known.

Thanks Jason. I actually thought about that… AFTER I shortened the nose (old rear) too much to do that. Tell Mr Rickman thank you for me
