The Shed

Quit wasting your data on Lionel !!!
You can discuss Lionel once you got the whole house wired with Cat5 connected to your dial up provider!

No WIFI in PA? If so, forget Cat5, go Coax.

There are several 5G providers in the area plus two satellite companies and a DSL provider. Cable is a maybey.

I’m thinking about one of those 5G systems that allow you to roam anywhere and switches to the best carrier in the area. Routers are pricey, about $500 but unlimited internet is reasonable at $99/mo.

Honestly Jon,
Knowing what I know about that area if it were me I would stick to about about 3.
Verizon
AT&T
Comcast
Probably in that order if available. I’m sure there are some deals to be had with others but you get what you pay for. Not sure if Comcast is avail. there but would not use their wireless and their cable is a rip.
Just my opinion and AT&T has never failed me on the go in them hills of Pennsyltucky.

For what it’s worth, we have 5G Verizon for smartphone service with no complaints. AT&T recently upgraded our house from copper wire to fiber optic home service which so far has been 1000x better than their old service.

Things haven’t gone exactly to plan. Our buyers were delayed a day by thier buyer so we can’t close until tomorrow and the movers can’t get it done in an afternoon. SO, we close tomorrow afternoon but don’t see any of our stuff until a week from today.

On a more positive note? Both cars made the trip fine while packed to the ceiling and mine pulling a maxed out camper full of plants!

We are living in the camper in Burnt Cabins for a week. The current owner of our new house would have let us dry camp on the property, but we need water and a place to dump for more than a few nights.

I’m talking home internet providers. My Mint Mobile is working fine for text and voice. 5G with them has always been spotty. Slow but it works.

Been using the T-Mobile Home Internet thingy for a few years here and had no issues. It works great, and we take it along when we travel. Just did a speed test:

514.2
Mbps download

I’ll take it.

Jon,
If your looking for something to do you could always head south on Aughwick Rd (St Rt 1005) and go to Cowans Gap Lake. Harrison Kalbach once had a logging RR there that connected with the CVRR. Shay Images - K

You could also do something a bit more boring and go to Carrick Furnace on RT 75 (Pathvalley Rd.) and take more pictures for Devon.
Just over the mountain to the east the Fannettsburg Inn has some killer food.

We did the Strawberry Festival in McConnelsburg. Very small and laid back (or low key for you youngins). There was a good presentation on the history of the courthouse. From there we hit the Walmart in Chambersburg for supplies then took the back way over 3 mountains to Burnt Cabins. We did pass through Fannetsburg but not at meal time. We’ll definitely try the Inn.

We still have not closed on the old or new places. The signings happened, but our buyer’s condo sale could not go through because of a bank scew up with the title. They say three days to fix it. If it doesn’t happen by late Tuesday, I need to postpone the movers again :disappointed:

You went home RT 533 (Upper Strasburg Rd) you drove right past one of my favorite spots to overlook the Cumberland Valley. When you were in McConnellsburg you could have driven south on RT16 just a little and seen Gary Buchanans birthplace. :grinning:

Yes we did. It was quite a ride but the mountain tops were socked in, so no views to be had. Glad I didn’t have the camper on the back.

Been using the T-Mobile Home Internet

I signed up with a local over the air broadband provider, but wasn’t happy with the activation fee, speed, monthly rate, or time until they could install.

So I checked out T-Mobile. I can see their mountaintop tower less than a half mile away. They offered their fastest speeds with no activation fee at $25/Mo less. I canceled the other order and got my activation fee back. T-Mobile is shipping the router tomorrow :grinning:

I still haven’t located my PC in storage so I’m stuck using my phone or tablet, but it will be faster than my low priority Mint Mobile and without Mint’s hot spot data limit.

Re the Shed. I’ve done nothing yet. We’ve been busy making trips to storage and bringing back as much of the oddball stuff as possible. I found a mover to move us from storage but it’s going to be expensive. They are scheduled for 7/5. Looking forward to sleeping with AC. We are still in the camper but the AC fried a week ago. Furrion is shipping warranty parts, but it will be a week before they get here.

That’s rough, no AC in this weather… Moving in soon, I hope?

We move furniture and boxes a week from Saturday. Fortunately the evening temps have been in the low 80’s and it cools to 70° by morning. I have a high volume exhaust fan in the camper that takes it down from over 90° inside to under 80° really quick after the sun goes down. Much cooler today but getting hot again tomorrow. AC parts should arrive today.

Spending the weekend at the railroad working on the combine FEBT is restoring.

Next week we are taking advantage of the mostly empty house to paint the living room.

Camper AC was fixed on Friday. The T-Mobile gateway arrived today. Not as good as Bob’s speed, but over 300 down and over 90 up. That is better than what I had with cable and 6 times faster than the service I canceled.

Still need to find my PC. Probably not before Saturday. For now it’s still tablet and phone.
