Well back in December I sent my Shay back to Bachmann because the center drive didn’t work.
Well I just received a box from UPS. Well Here it is. my Shay.?
Well It is not the one I sent back because I stripped it of all loose parts.
I received a new Shay with all the loose parts in the box.
I will grease it up and if I have time today get some pics of it on the track. I need to do service on the Climax anyway.

Be lucky this time.
All mine have worked well right out of the box, even the first one I bought back in 1998 - mind you, it has the later trucks, NOT the original crumbly versions, although I hafta admit that I have a set of the newer metal ones, just in case.

Good Luck with the new “repaired/replaced Shay.”
I recently sent a two truck HO Climax back to B.mann for warranty work on broken gears in its transmission. They sent back a brand new three truck HO Climax with my little HO engineer and fireman in a plastic bag.
They have a very generous warranty program. I am still left wondering why not invest in more robust gear trains and electrical work to prevent these common recurring problems??? Don’t they lose money on repairs that are actually complete replacements or upgrades ( as in the case of my HO Climax)???

Most of the time it is less expensive for Bachmann to replace the whole unit than it is to pay a Stateside (or any other Western Country) employee to repair it.
Someone skilled enough to do that sort of work does not come cheaply.
Probably the case Tony. Would be nice if they would at least offer up the usable parts from returns though - even if it were in bulk; somebody could pick out the gems and put the parts on eBay or something (sorry if this makes no sense, just having my first cup
Makes you wonder what happens to all the returned locos that get replaced by new ones.
Maybe a guy should do a little dumpster diving in the alley behind 1400 East Erie Ave.

Hmmmmmm
I wonder if Jack Lynch has finally talked some sense into Bmann.
It’s sounding more like LGB’s service dept every day.
I was told the used ones they keep are what they do some of the repair work with and get parts off of.
Believe what u will but it makes sense…
John Bouck said:I've never had occasion to send any Large Scale back to them, but years ago, long before Jack arrived, I had several N scale locos die. Sent them in and got brand new ones back in just a week or so.

The frustrating part, with ALL of the LS makers, is getting parts for DIY repairs.
That was the second loco I had to send back for work ,and both were bad right out of the box.
I skunked them though. I took all the loose parts and put them in a bag and put the bag on my work bench.
When they sent me a new unit I got all those parts again. Kinda help pay the shipping I guess.
But then again if it was done right the first time they wouldn’t have to go through all of the hassle of repairing the new.

I wonder if since Irvin is gone …HHHMMMM

Removing and selling parts from returned locos.
Nope. Will not happen, for the same reason in my previous post.
Well I have a pic I’ll post of my Shay running. When I first started the Shay up at low speed I took notice the center truck was not working. but when I added power thr truck started to tun and has continuer to run. here is a picture or two.

I took these pictures at super slow speed.
That is engine speed.
The sound seems different than before.
Not as loud and less of it.
This is the consist for my Climax.
I’m going to take the one flat car from this consist and add more flat cars to make a log hauling train.
That is the plan, so far I have 3 or 4 flat cars for the consist it will be all flats except the last car will be a caboose.
