The Reason of My Driver Diameter Enquiry,

2020 March 4 Wednesday,

Hi Guys,

This is the Reason for my Past Driver Diameter Enquiry,

This had taken me years to figure out.

Absolutely Everyone that I had contacted could not assist.

No Drawing existed.

The Origin of the 0-4-2T Drive was a " Mystery ". Well, No Longer !

Simple, once I had finally figured it out !

https://www.gscalecentral.net/threads/the-norman-bourgault-final-revision-of-the-lionel-0-4-2t-as-the-delton-0-4-2t.314428/

I have always wanted a DELTON 0-4-2T since my reading of the Mr. David Fletcher’s Article " The Phil Jensen Story " , Pg 16 .

The DELTON 0-4-2T simply has that " LOOK " , much more attractive to my eye than the DELTON-LIONEL 0-6-0T .

Norman

Thank you Norman, have certainly been confused.

Now, I am still a bit confused, is your statement that the origin of the Delton 0-4-2T prototype was the issue/mystery?

A simple yes or no the the question above would be very helpful in understanding.

I have other questions, but I just am unclear as to what the mystery was and have read EVERY post of yours on all the forums you have posted on.

Thanks, Greg

Hi Greg,

" The Origin of the 0-4-2T Drive was a " Mystery ". Well, No Longer ! "

I had posted a question on the other forum as to where did the Drive for the DELTON 0-4-2T come from?

ABSOLUTELY NO ONE, Could Help Me.

Those Who Knew, Weren’t Talking !!!

Your Personal Answer on the other Forum was that You Did Not Know, " Not Enough Information " .

I have always wanted a DELTON 0-4-2T Model Locomotive and

now I have FINALLY Figured Out how to build

a 2 Inch Diameter Boiler Version using the DELTON LIONEL 0-6-0T

of the 1.5 Inch Diameter Boiler Original DELTON 0-4-2T.

Norman

Great, I would _love_to see your progress, and I hope you share it, but the thing that I cannot understand is (your words) “where did the drive for the Delton 0-4-2T come from?”

I do not think that Delton took a Lionel 0-6-0T locomotive’s drivers to make their prototype.

That is distinct from you saying: “I’m going to build a copy of the Delton 0-4-2T for myself, and I will use the wheels from a Lionel”, I completely understand your quest to find something close.

My point was I cannot “see” any “mystery” in Delton’s creation of a prototype, the owner made many prototypes in the course of business.

Perhaps the “mystery” would be better described as “solving” your desire to make one yourself from existing available parts.

A fine point maybe, but it’s hard to believe that Delton built their prototype from a Lionel…

Greg

Hi Greg,

The LIONEL 0-6-0T and the DELTON 0-4-2T were both designed by Phil Jensen.

DELTON made the Molds for the LIONEL 0-6-0T.

The Phil Jensen Story ,

https://familygardentrains.com/primer/rolling_stock/fallen_flags/delton/fallen_flags_delton.htm

So now I have found my source of Parts.

Norman

So; buy the bloody parts and show us your progress… if you ever actually do anything, now that YOUR mystery is solved…

Ahh, thanks Norman, with that data, I would reverse my stance, and would say your theory is plausible. Please accept my apology if needed. I see your logic.

Hi Greg,

Phil Jensen definitely is a genius at freelance model locomotive design.

Rather than drawings,

Phil sent a Physical Model handbuilt by Phil Jensen to the

Mold Maker to then Measure & Copy to then Create the Master Molds.

Unfortunately, the present day market wants almost exclusively exact scale models.

I have purchased exact scale models but I still really appreciate Phil Jensen’s Work.

I do not know which Model Phil Built First,

the LIONEL 0-6-0T or the DELTON 0-4-2T.

It is really unfortunate that DELTON went out of business prior to

the DELTON 0-4-2T at least being presented to the Marketplace

to later be resurrected by a Future Train Manufacturer.

Phil Jensen did explain to myself that the DELTON 0-4-2T

Smokebox, Domes, Cab

are the parts of the DELTON C P HUNTINGTON 4-2-4T .

Norman

Lots of information here if you read it twice as suggested…Wait …google is your friend used to be the answer back in the day in the hood.

I’ll try and get some pictures with my phone if I can .

I guess the first task is to buy the Lionel and the CP Huntington right?
