The picnic, or being rude to a '16 Stude

“Whatcha DO-in?” giggle

Can’t you almost taste poor Tommy’s frustration? He finally got up the nerve to ask Becky Sue, the girl he’s had a crush on since 5th grade, to sneak away from the Fourth of July picnic with him. They decide to sit and talk in the back seat of her dad’s 1916 Studebaker sedan. He’s just about to try for that all important first kiss, when Katie, Becky Sue’s cute - and suddenly VERY annoying - 4-year old sister suddenly pops up from the front seat… This project actually started with a panel truck from Liberty Classics… They seem to have had kitbashers in mind. The body comes apart at the beltline.

The body was moved 1/4" forward to reduce the rear overhang, windows were cut, and trimmed with .030 square styrene, rear doors are a thin styrene overlay, the seats were fabricated from wood, and the figures are from that guy in Hong Kong… that’s it. I still have totouch up a couple spots, bend a wire crank, and re-install the carriage lamps, but not bad for an evening’s work.

I spent more money on this piece than I usually do for a diecast car… $12, but it went so well that I may just eventually buy another one to make a second sedan in a different color.

Mark II - The ‘Johnny Cash’ edition. Not only is it basic black, I had to scrounge some missing parts to finish it. “I got it one piece at a time…”
