Large Scale Central

The On30 Experience!

Like so many of the LS brethern, I have been wailaid by the On30 bug. while this is mainly a project that I pursue with the JRVP, while teching her how to use basic tools and techniques, I find it quite gratifying! First is a 6 x 2 foot switching layout we are calling “The Anniebird Central” since its primary focus is the mining camp of Annibird somewhere in the Appalachians.

The premise is that the On30 line is an extention of the WCNG beyond the 7/8 scale layout. As such I will be recreating several of my 7/8 scale designs in O scale! I mean…whats 6 scale inches amonst friends?

The first actual construction project is a smallish engine house to store teh 0-4-2 Porter, construction is of posterboard, with a crimped metal roof made from a foil oven liner. The roof was spray painted for effect, and the walls washed with black shoe polish in denatured alcohol. Overall I estimate less than $3 in the whole thing…If yer gonna play with electric mice…this is the scale to do it in!
