The official Summer photo thread

Jon I think you need a sawmill. Especially since you have some logging engines.

Great pics guys!

Jon I already added my industry 2 cents on page 5 of your engine house thread

Jon,

Great pictures! The engine house looks good. One thought for use of siding would be the CVRwy R.I.P. track. That way any cars could go to it, but actually sounds like more of a function for one of the tracks inside. Something of an industry with both tank and hopper loads. Fuel Oil and Coal Distribution? With winter unloading facilities.

Thanks Ric. A car repair facility did come to mind. I might try that and see how the rotation goes.

Dave - A forge is interesting, but other than coal hoppers in and flat cars out I really don’t have the rolling stock to support one. Too bad - it could be named Valley Forge!

One thing this project has done for me is to appreciate structures out on the RR. I have several old Pola buildings collecting dust waiting to be americanized, but I think I’m going put some of them them outside as-is for background structures.

What rolling stock would be needed for a forge? I would think many finished products would be sent out in Box Cars.

It’s hot, but not nearly as humid as it typically is in the swamp here. So, what better day to run trains?

The yard at Green Springs seems almost empty…

But, there is a car waiting for pick up at Smith Pond Mill

And the siding at McCown Freight is almost full…

The bucket coaling station in Jackson is also pretty full…

And it looks like Buchanan Tool and Die hasn’t seen a train in days…

Meanwhile, Mills Fuel siding has a few cars ready… (that’s Salmons Produce in the background)

Here’s a shot of Salmons Produce with their own two sidings rather full

Yes, even Matheson Textiles looks full…

#4 is ready to leave Green Springs for some work. Just need to spin the turn table over to the service track and we’ll be on our way.

Today, the Jackson and Burke was visited by the Strong Family. Jim & Ruth Strong came over to visit the Jackson & Burke, accompanied by their son Kevin and his children, Suzy & Andy. Andy seemed to be a bit ill, so spend time sleeping on the couch inside.

But Suzy was more than up to the task of running the train. She quickly demonstrated a knack for running the train nice and slow! She moved the train out of Green Springs yard and into the town of Occoquan.

But, it soon became clear that she had an ulterior motive - she wanted to make sure that we picked up a hopper from Matheson Textiles in Occoquan. I quickly found out that she wanted to make sure that Barbie and another doll needed to ride around the J&B.

We later added a caboose, and everybody but Ruth and Andy took turns taking #4 around the layout. I became so involved in the discussion that I forgot to take any more pictures.

Still, a great visit!

Great pics, great kid

Great run day.

I sure like those outside braced freight cars.

Looks like a good time was had by (almost) all!

Bruce,
I have to get some buildings. They tell a story for the RR and give it purpose. Very nice.
but…
I never had any daughters, so I won’t be having any Barbies on the cars, I expect. Good of you to host the next generation!!
(It’s like the rock stars of G gauge there, I’ll tell ya!) where’s that smilie face button???

Yeah, I’m a BIG fan of buildings. Still have more planned. Big buildings, too.

I like having the younger ones over; you just have to adopt a different mind set.

I spent my Summer Vacation in Little River RR country high up in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park of East Tennessee. I hiked the Little River RR trail and drove the Little River road that was laid over the Little River RR road bed.

I just had to buy this post card.

Don’t you know I was so inspired by it all that I had to try this shot out on the Little River RR in the backyard:

THEN…AGAIN

Doc Tom

We got to watch our youngest grand child on Saturday while our daughter was picking up her two other boys from a special week long camp for kids with cancer.

Coltyn has discovered that he “LOVES” trains. My wife made him a Thomas the Tank pillow that he has to sleep with. So when he came over Saturday morning we had to get the train out for him. He must have walked around the layout for over an hour following the train. I taught him how to push the horn button on my Revo controller so everytime he came around by me he had to sound the horn. We only have one accident, he was trying to put his little man on the caboose and he knocked over the caboose and two cars. He cried until I got the train back together and running again then all was well. The first picture shows him watching the train and the second he has grandma running with him as they chase the the train. It was a great day.

Looks like an engineer in training!

You’re probably right Doug, his daddy is an engineer for BNSF Railroad. Like father like son!
All I know is he’s dam cute!!!

Yeap Chuck, you just moved way up his favorite’s list!
Just try and keep the remote away from him now!
