John, Keven has done a review of the hoppers and I think Bruce has too. I also think that Bruce has mentioned them on a couple of occasions. People are liking them and many feel they are comparable to the AMS line.
You mean these?
I’ve got two flats and two hoppers, and am very pleased with them. I’ve seen the box car, and it looks equally great. I’d have bought one of them, too, but Bob decided to do the EBT steel box car project, so that’s filling the last box car hole in my roster. (I still yet may get one.) The only thing to watch out for is that some of the details are prone to fall off, as they’re just press-fit in place. Overgrown groundcover reached out and ripped off some of my journal lids, and the stirrup steps really should be glued in place. Visually, they’re every bit as good as the AMS cars. They roll very smoothly, and the couplers can be directly swapped out with Kadee #830 couplers. Mine didn’t stay untouched for long.

Putting Kadee 930’s on the Bachmann rolling stock. I have one of each - flat, hopper and box car. I have not found the problem of the loose pressed fit parts as reported by others. The air hoses are just pressed fit and I’m cutting them shorter (about half) to get them out of the way of everything and a touch of CA. Using a little CA on the bearing box lids, because I’m afraid that will be too fragile for actual running and every day use. The 930 coupler boxes are very similar to the box supplied with the Kadee 930’s but the hole arrangement is just a little different. I think these are going to take a lot less work to get out on the line compared to the AMS cars.
I have now completed installation of Kadees on all 3 Bachmann 1:20.3 freight cars, box, flat and coal hopper. On none of the cars did I find loose parts reported by others, except the coupler pockets on the coal hopper. The other cars had 2 screws for each pocket, the hopper had a single screw that was loose. I had to drill and tap the second holes in the center beam. Nice examples of 1:20.3 freight equipment with certainly better wheels than the AMS counter parts. I know, they may not be as prototypical, but I don’t think they will derail as easy and nothing looks good derailed. The Kadee 930’s install very easily and work great, drilled a small hole behind the axis pin, which I always cut off flush with the bottom of the coupler and installed the eyelet chain pin for the lift uncoupling chain that was pulled out of the Bachmann coupler.
Still trying to resolve all the problems with the AMS freight cars and they stay shelf queens.
