Sunday means steam locomotives pulling passenger trains in the Summer at my RR and this past Sunday the newly improved Beyer Garratt came out to play.
Over the Winter I lowered the whole thing nearly 1/4 and added accent paint. Last week I added a sierra sound card to it. I built a new ash pan for it and the speaker went in there.
Here it is running the rails for the foamers.

Thank you for the video. Itâs too bad the design never caught on in North America. I think motive power departments were dubious because they thought the locomotive would lose tractive effort as fuel and water got consumed from the tenders. Beyer-Garretts proved highly successful throughout the rest of the world, though.
I wanted to build a North American style Beyer-Garrett, but lost my nerve and saved up for the Roundhouse version instead, Still really admire those locomotives.

John, I once had the cars packed with Smurfs. I used hot glue to hold them down and over the years one by one they came loose. I opened up the cars to find that the glue was actually reacting to the rubbery smurfs and making them sticky so I took them out. There is still one in there.

I havenât run my Beyer-Garrett much to date, but hope to get more runs in soon. It is live steam with radio control (the valve gear sequencing is better that way). I am more accustomed to manual control, so the learning curve is somewhat daunting for me.
