Large Scale Central

The Log splitter

In honor of Lincoln’s B-day

This is the rough figure, waiting for additional detailing and clean up.

Very nice. I’m thinking that the beige areas are resin of some sort? Gray- sculpey? And not sure of the axe.

Do you start with a wire form?

Yes, the grey is super sculpty, the white regular sculpty except the axe and the tan is resin.
The axe is carved from styrene.

Very well done Richard.

I showed the pic to Jennifer (a Brit like me) who instantly recognised the subject without benefit of reading the text.

Thaks Tony! I’m never sure if the likeness is sucessful unless someone says something like “Isn’t that so and so?”

Hey Richard, they’re clamouring after your figures in a German forum. Keep up the good work!

Thanks Hans,
BTW, I have lived in Germany. In Bavaria to be specific. I was introduced to the Castles of King Ludwig, the royal recluse and was thinking about making a sculpture of him in 1:20.3 scale. Do you think that would be of interest to model railroaders in Germany?

Very nice. Did you work from a picture of young Lincoln or his he more freelanced?

-Brian

Brian,
From a collection of pictures I downloaded off the internet.

Great to see someone creating something beautiful to commemorate our greatest President’s birthday.

Are you going to do a Washington?

Young 'un, chopping down a cherry tree.

Don’t think there were any trains running through the colonies

dosen’t rule out a washington bronze statue richard

I have to admit, Washington is an interesting subject. I might do one in 7/8ths scale or something large. Anyway here is the finished Abe

Now, that’s a nice looking figure. I also like him because I can use him anywhere on my layout…he doesn’t HAVE to be Abe!

Abe doesn’t look too happy - looks like all the chopping is ahead of him!

He hated splitting rails, but figured there were a lot worse things they could call him.

Very nice!

What kind of paints do you use?

Polly Scale and Model Masters. Testors Dull coat and sometimes other testor colors if the color I’m looking for isn’t available in Polly Scale or Model Masters.

And they did.
