Large Scale Central

The last MOW (for now)

Is the Water Service car 010145. A 40’ car. First two pics are the prototype. I scaled these up for my build. Notice I left off the celestory boarded up windows on mine. And also it looks like it has a corrugated roof, but I’m assuming the earlier car didn’t have that roof. Its riding on R&K 4’8" trucks. These are nice trucks. I’ve used them on other cars. http://www.randkrailroadproducts.com/ The rest is scratched up from wood, brass and Phil’s castings and parts. Decals from Stan Cederleaf.

Sorry for my lousy pics. I think I need to update my camera.

Very nice work John! A great piece indeed!

The pix and the car looked pretty damn good to me.

How about a pic of all the MoW cars behind an engine…

I actually wasn’t going to post this model, because I’m not entirely satisfied with it.
I got the raised roof a tad too tall, and regret not figuring out how to use the boarded up
clerestory windows.
But any casual observer prolly won’t notice the difference. I won’t show it at a model contest.
(Or none of my other builds.)

Ken, I don’t have a wide enough angle lens to get the entire train in the frame.
Maybe a video as the cars slowly pass by would be better.
I need to find someone to film it.

YES PLEASE!!!

Nice!

John… I googled the car and seen lots photos of it, but still not sure what it is used for… Dose it have a water tank in it or is it has pumps to pull water out of creeks or what is it used for ??? Any ideas…
Yours came our very nice.

It was originally an old RPO car. Water Service car (the D&RGW had several different kinds) is for servicing water tanks, columns and towers along the right of way. They contained spouts, chains, tar sealant, etc. The water service crews would live in them as they maintained the tanks and towers. At least that is what I gathered in my research…

Tk’s John. That is what they were for… I wonder why the raised of the top of the roof was odd. Guess then maybe being it might of been in Pass svc. or an RPO car.
Sorry about asking stupid questions, but never seen anything like it with that type of a roof line.
Really an odd maint. of way car and is very difference car…
