Large Scale Central

The Invasion at Matheson's in 2007

For the last 4 years, we have been particpating in the “American Invasion” to the Ottawa, Canada area. One of the highlights has been watching the progress as at least 3 garden railroads expand, upgrade or are created. In past years, we have seen Doug Matheson’s garden railroad go from a station and a proposal of where it will sit. To the building being placed in the garden and listening to Doug’s ideas of creating an Oriental garden in which to watch the train run through. Each year, there has been good progress. This year he had a complete loop for us to run on and others are showing fine pictures of it. One of the things that impressed me, was the entrance. Its magical. This is the view from Doug’s driveway. The cedars and other evergreens are sentinels to his railroad.

As you pull back the branches you begin to see what he has created.

Looking to the right, this is your view

To the left, you see more

Bruce has stated that Jan had the inagural run of her engine and train.

Here Jan and Barb Matheson look on as it explores the track

The engine was given to Jan by Fred Mills a couple of years ago.

Dave Goodson, of NWRCS, installed batteries, an RCS control and a Sierra Sound System. The KV Railway’s Executive’s coach is an Aristo Craft coach with smaller wheels and custom personnel.

Lots of pictures were taken and it was fun to get one of Nicole taking a picture, while Don Howard cools his heels as his live steamer has to wait.

Here it is coming through one of Doug’s bridges. This is going to be a great railroad. Check out that headlight that Dave installed. It lights up the neighborhood.

This is the picture I should show of Bruce with his train.

But this is the one I like

I knew I should have stopped at Doug’s on my way by. But it was 4:30, startin to rain, and I figgered you guys would have been gone by then. My fault for haveing to run back home to get my camera and addin a hour more to my drive. Oh well, Next year I’ll make it a point to get there…

BTW, good progress on the layout Doug…
