The Hall of Shame Dirty Dog Garden RR Thread

I wish I could say my RR looked bad after the winter. I tend to keep everything in order throughout the winter as long as its not burried. Usually I have everything cleaned up before the snows hit. At most I have some leaves/sticks to remove, freshen up the balast and fix a few minor things on stuctures. Nothing noticed in pictures. The advantage of running year round.

Nice!

Nice looking railroad Boomer. Looking forward to seeing more of it. Unfortunitly I don’t have anything to show as my railroad was covered in snow all winter and there’s nothing growing yet. I have a few sections of track to re-connect and a new bridge to build but that won’t happen until after my shoulder completely heals from surgery.

Boomer that looks like some real desert railroading you have going on there. You tumbleweeds have tumbleweeds!

Besides some ballast washouts and track relevelling my RR survived the Winter without too much damage. When it warms up a bit more it will get attended to but I can still run trains albeit at a slower speed until then.

Don’t know if you are aware or not of the “Gold Mine” you have there lying on the lower level, Boomer. I know of smaller scales modelers that would kill mercilessly for that tumbleweed. They make good trees.

Just thought you should know.

No snow, plenty of rain. That means the greens began growing early. Weeds everywhere except where the stuff I planted began growing like crazy. Ajuga over the rails, fruit all over the ground, big weeds everywhere.

When the wind stops blowing (tomorrow), I’ll take some pix.

Were having a pretty nasty windstorm in parts of LA tonight. I suspect a few so cal members here will have some contender pics after the tumbleweeds settle.

Well it’s not a current picture, but here’s what the railroad looked like before I tore up all the track in preparation for renting out the house :frowning:

I have to admit, I really didnt have too much problem either. I did loose a couple of Mini Spruces, so I’ll have to replant this spring. Other than that my railroad weathered pretty good.

Boomer… wouldn’t that be akin to a lumberjack starting forest fires?

In New Mexico, You don’t have to grow your own, Just put up a fence, and go out every other day and collect a full harvest. The wind does the hard part… Thats why there called " Tumble…"

Here are a few pix taken today of the current condition of my garden rr. I’m in Sacramento, we had terrible winds yesterday and this morning, but my problems were a long time in the making!

You might could apply for disaster relief

I just need to call in some chits from other club members . We’ll see how that works.

Hmmm, those are some massive model hailstones. “As big as a house!!!”

The tangerine and orange trees drop those monsters all the time. This afternoon, I’ll head out with a bucket and picker and try to get them off the right of way.

The orange juice on the rails is doubly bad. It attracts ants, and it’s sticky and hard to remove. Even goo gone requires a lot of scrubbing with a scotch-brite pad!

Pfft…I got 18 inches

That wind we had blew some buildings about fpur feet so there will be some repair but the new gold mill never moved. Time to start releveling and reballasting.

Finally got a chance this afternoon (left work early) to walk the pike and do a damage assessment. The main line faired well, The Un-ballasted Mtn. Div got the worst of the winter.

A little wash down and some wash out.

Bad land slide and complete burial of the line, Defiantly a place that will need some help to prevent it from happening again.

On the Main line, The North Portal of the “Brewer Tunnel” has a cave in, and I think that it’s actually a wash thru, that washed out the fill behind the cribbing.

I think that the oversized five finger crane will be needed to bring in some gravel backfill to sure up the fill.

Not to bad overall and I think that I’ll have some “Train time” before the weekend is up…
