The Eagle and High Peak Mines in Julian, CA

Recently my wife and I took a drive up to the mountains east of San Diego, to a little town called Julian. Originally a mining town, it later become known for apples and apple pie.

While there, we took a tour of the combined Eagle and High Peak mines. This old mine is similar to many that I’ve seen abandoned in California and Nevada. Unlike those abandoned mines, this one has almost everything intact, including an early, 10hp, one-cylinder hoist at a shaft deep inside the mine.

Outside the mine they have a lot of vintage mining and milling equipment, and the rusty remains of various antique vehicles.

Naturally, I shot a lot of photos of both the mine and the equipment. You can see them here:

Enjoy!

You had me fooled Ray, I thought it was some more of your modelling!

I spent a lot of time at Cuyamaca State Park which is south of Julian.
I have thought about building a "hard rock’ but haven’t tried yet. It may have more rock modeling skills than i can muster.
I enjoyed seeing the old mining equipment.
I have great memories od those apple pies!
