The Doldrums of Summer

Mid July and my enthusiometer is at zero.

The GS has returned to Albuquerque in preparation for school starting next week.

My paint table is infested with nerd toys.

The workbench is covered in pickle car residue.

and Cookies has taken over my chair.

I tried sitting on the porch with a shotgun and no head plinking empty cans. Kind of shook up the neighbors.

Ran some BBQ through the smoker. That did not go so well.

Even tried hitting the road with Rooster. But his umbilical cord only reaches to the state line of Pensyltucky.

Whats a guy to do? My last thought is to see what all of you are doing in the long hot days of summer.

these figureparts - are that swoppets?

if yes, which make and which scale?

If you’re painting minis, please remember to thin your paints:

I like the Hubley Model A too!

Korm I have not heard Swoppets in 50 years. These are as Benjamin eluded to, war gaming miniatures by Games Workshop.

I do still have a few old Timpo Swoppets in my box of forgotten toys. Offerings to the Gods of Childhood innocence.

Since you asked, putting REVO RC into my Western Maryland RS 3 with lots of help from Pete T. Very messy job. Got it mostly done, thread to come.

and i started with LGB to have trains to go with my vast collection of Britains, Timpo and Elastolin.

if you take them out, treat them with care. my Timpos got brittle. up till now i didn’t find a remedy against that.
other than Britains, Elastolin and many “no names”
they must have used a plastic, that evaporates its softener.

those in the pic are war gaming miniatures??
if i compare with the glasses and tools, they must be at least 1:35 - while i thought, gaming miniatures all are an inch or (much) less.

talking about wargaming…

civil war game in 1:32 - sometime in the '70ies.

And I thought I had a cluttered work bench.
I bow to the victor! :stuck_out_tongue:

Games Workshop produces most of their figures in 25-28mm (out of the UK). I find 1/32 to be close but still just a little large.

The Warhammer 40K / Fantasy game systems evolved in the late 70s from historical wargames. Bunch of dope smoking hippies met in college and decided they could do wargaming based on Tolkien’s Hobbit books and any number of Martian invasion SciFi movies. We are all the richer for it.

So sayeth the nerds.

YES

this was before Tolkien reached Germany.

but it was short-lived.
needed too much room, figures were expensive and there were not enough players with stamina for 48hours-sessions…

nerds? what nerds? - nerds are always the others. only the others.
