The Dilbert cartoons' copyrights ©

The question has arisen “What about the copyright?”

Yes, indeed! Precisely for that reason I make absolutely sure that the copyright noctice is included with each and every one that I post.

AND the graphic is large enough that, besides the dialogue in the strip, one can clearly read the © Copyright notice.

BTW some of those Dilbert cartoons are uncannily topical, perhaps that is of more concern than the copyright? Would that be possible??

Of course! I enjoy them!

But, does the Dilbert “owner” allow reproduction of his stuff (even with the copyright?). More curious than anything else.

(We in the software development industry LOVE Dilbert, I’ve worked in several companies where the EXACT dialog has happened!)

Regards, Greg

Since the cartoons in question are referenced to your website, I believe you are violating the copyright by publishing them on your site. Should you be referencing them at their original source then that would not be so clear .

Jon,

The way I see it is similar to a review of a book or an article, for illustrative purpose one is allowed to quote and show samples of the “work”.

Besides, I highly recommend buying a Dilbert calendar… that’s where my pertinent samples stem from.

Copyrighted material can generally be reproduced for discussion purposes…provided the person reproducing it doesn’t do it for financial gain. As long as HJ only posts an occasional “Dilbert” I doubt if there would be any harm done. Should he decide to post the whole calender, then there might become a problem and HJ’s motives might become questioned.

That seems to be a regular occurrence anyway :D

Yes indeed, yes indeed. It will only subside once I have been “officially canonized” - relevant quips elsewhere on this forum. Or once I start a not-for-profit org which concerns itself with the dissemination of “G Scale News” according to the gospel of “Saint Geeee For Theee Five” aka “The Big Five”.

I’m sure that Fr. Fred would gladly canonize you for the price of a bottle of good spirits…

I look at it this way…if I post a link, it takes you to the site where its posted legally, right? so wheres the copyright violation, I’m only guiding you to the images location. No violation and if it is such a legal stinker, the website that its on is resposible for usinf software that will either prevent me from linking it, (dumb idea) or prevent me from coping it as a “save image as” which I have run into, otherwise its there for the taking and the copyright holder shouldnt cry about leaving their property out on the street for all to look at , then cry when someone walks up and takes it home. Yeah I know its a twisted logic, but thats reality on-line, anyone can copy or posts links to pics of my models, do I cry about? of course not.
