The days of deals on eBay seem to be gone

Ebay–same company as Amazon .
I hear too many stories about ebay to use them , and if experience with Amazon is anything to go by , I have done the right thing . I did get satisfaction from Amazon eventually ,but not the way they intended .
They are just a stone’s throw away .

Shamelessly cross posted from another board… think this guy’s on to something.

Lately there’s been a lot of talk about “Mint In Box” listed on train purchases on E-Bay and other places …

Personally, I don’t see the big deal.

While the Bachmann locomotives I’ve found generally come with lots of those little mints all wrapped up in the package, by the time they get here from China, they really are kind of stale tasting, and not very minty anymore.

But … I bought the locomotive for the train, not the freebie mints… so I never thought it worth mentioning before.

Maybe Kader could work something out with Andes Candies for better tasting mints to put in the box, and then folks wouldn’t be so upset about it?

I have used eBay since 1997 and have done fairly well buying and selling. There is a little down trend right now and that just might be people are vacationing and not railroading. There is the extra cost of petrol that is digging in to the economy.

I believe in buying high and selling low but make it up in volume !!!

Anyone interested in a LGB #50 D&RGW diesel cheep ?

Cheers,

there’s one on Ebay right now… how much for your’s or is that the one for sale ?

Long gone long ago… Check the classifieds for my listings of stuff to go…

Cheers,

“…I prefer to find something I like, watch it till close, put my best price in seconds before the auction ends and I’m never disappointed in myself for bidding too much. If somebody else wins it, that’s cool, I was only in the “game” for a second, with no time to get caught up in an auction price war competition to win at all cost. . . .”

That is THE way !! Those people that ‘play’ Ebay any other way . . . well *-)

. . although since my computer sys is an oldie i have to give myself a couple minutes LOL

I have 2 screens on my main computer, keep one on the item, and keep refreshing it to watch the price change, the other is on the page where I put my bid in, so my snipe is a bit more “fine tuned”.

Regards, Greg

I do almost the same thing. I have 2 computers side by side. Watch and refresh on one, bid on the other.

Sheesh guys,

If I really want something I just enter the max. amount I’m going to bid and leave it at that.

But I have been known to do the manual bidding to see just how much some people are willing to pay. In those cases it is always more than my bid.

Funny though, I always get what I’m after, sometimes it just takes a bit longer.

This way eliminates the idiots. If you put your bid in several days in advance, the noobies and idiots will run it up while you wait. If you wait until the end and then put your max on it you can save many bucks. IMO They have yet to figure out the end bidding…

My method also.........There are very few "rare" trains.......sooner or later, the item will show up again and I eventually get what I want at the price I'm willing to pay......Time is on My Side...Right, Mick!

Marvin,

Yes, Sir.

Time is still on our side, but I don’t remember all the lyrics after 40+ years.

You , my friend , are about to get zapped .
Or worse , serenaded .
Still , he has had this pain in the ass for so long , he must be getting to like it ,so he may mellow a bit .

The thing I have always wondered about evilBay is WHY? Why is it when I’m looking for something, it always gets bid Waaay up out of sight. Then OTOH Why when I am trying to sell something (often a similar item) does it often end up bringing diddly squat?

Getting stuff from eBay, just takes patience!

Just like it takes patience to read this thread?
