The Crest HO_Receiver has Arrived Hurray Hurray

Will Crest’s sound decoder work with RCS or DT receiver?

It’s encouraging, to me, that Crest is releasing a new product.
It shows me they hope to be around for a while.
Something I was a wee bit concerned about

Patrick, the Crest unit is a receiver, motor control, light control and sound unit all in one and is called Revolution. So, it would not work with any other system.

You would need a sound only unit such as Dallee, Sierra, Phoenix, ittsound to work with battery operated receivers.

Patrick, reading your post makes me think you are not asking if the decoder protocol works with other systems (the question Dan answered), but if the sound part can be used with other systems.

Unfortunately no, the unit will not work on DC alone, like a Phoenix, or Sierra, etc. It cannot be used as a sound unit from DC/motor power alone.

Regards, Greg

As most posters here will know the HO version was mentioned as a future project some while ago.

I got rid of all my OO/HO equipment some fourteen years ago so did not attach any thought about the HO Revo.

Seeing the initial post, here and elsewhere by Stan, got me thinking - yes, I know a dangerous pursuit - whether or not it would be suitable for installation in an Aristo Centre Cab switcher. The two truck Aristo locos are usually perceived as frugal where amperage draw is concerned.

The C/Cab would be battery powered so I would not be interested in sound. lights or smoke - the Aristo models did not have a smoke function anyway - as the loco would be used on my new inglenook indoor yard.

I look forward to the reports which, I am sure, will be forthcoming.

I am not sure whether this HO Revo will be readily available in the UK - I hope it is - but it would not be the first item I have imported from The States.

Dan and Greg,

Thanks for the replies. I thought I read in another post that sound units would be offered separately which had to make me ask. Good to see someone else is bringing a RC to the small scale product to the market. If your’e not aware MRC is also making a very basic system. I think what will be a huge breakthrough in the acceptance of small scale RC is for a manufacturer to release a starter set. I’m hoping MRC will do that since they own Model Power now.

[snip}Are there the same 6 function outputs as on the LS Revolution for connecting to external sounds, lights, etc? {snip}

Kevin… There are auxiliary function outputs but not like the LS version…

They’re mainly used for lighting functions used in most HO DCC ready locomotives.

see diagrams on page 6…
