The Bachmann Big Hauler

Back in the day some of us dropped Barry’s Big Train drives in them. (I still have one).
I also have an Annie I’m not using at this time and got to thinking…
Has anyone put an Annie chassis in a Big Hauler?
I’m wondering if they even fit before I start the tear down.

If you have an Annie, whey would you cannibalize it for the chassis to repair an old Big Hauler? Buying an Annie chassis from Bachmann (if they still have any) would be more logical to me. But I’m sure you have a reason.

Jon, I like my new Bachmann Eureka mogul so much, I want to make another old time
wood burner. My big hauler is a wood burner.
I need the more simpler valve gear of the big hauler and so on.
I could put a funnel stack on the annie and swap the headlight, but all that fancy annie valve gear
is over the top for an old wood burner.
There is an “old style” Annie on eBay right now, but it’s spendy. It still has the wrong stack and headlight, but I can swap them easy enough.
I thought I could use the stuff I have laying around…

OK, I get it now - but the valve gear is part of the Annie chassis, so you would still need to fix that I guess

This is the only “Old Time” Annie that was made, (I think).

I see that it does have the right headlight. Converting the tender to wood is easy enough. Adding a balloon stack would work.
I’ll have to take a closer look at the valve gears to see how hard that would be.

In case someone is scratching his head, this is the Annies valve gear. It looks like I can take all the wiggly bits off and leave just the basic.

It fits and runs better

John,

Are these the chassis with brass gears, or the ones with nylon gears but all sorts of updated valves and rods and such? If the latter, you should be OK based upon our experiences last year in our Triple O – Bachmann 10-Wheeler Salvage Campaign. Post #52 will show you what we used.

We found throughout last year that the boiler shells and cabs seemed to mix and match across multiple generations of chassis, to include the ones we ultimately used.

Oh, and you can get the old time chassis from B’mann: Loco Chassis (90040) (G 4-6-0) [90040] - $153.50 : Bachmann Trains Online Store! . We married one of these or something like it to one of the hulks just fine.

Eric

Eric, I was planning on going thru your post today.
The Annie’s have metal gears. And a different front pilot truck style than the Hauler.
I remember adding all kinds of weight to my Hauler pilot truck just to keep it on the rails.
