The 'Ark' Eco Building of the Future

Hey, now there’s a structure challenge.

The housing of the future as envisioned by Russian architect Alexander Remizov could be constructed quickly, withstand environmental disasters, and house 10,000 people at a time. Not bad if you don’t mind living in a place that looks eerily similar to a hamster Habitrail. The eco-friendly dome, ‘The Ark,’ is designed to withstand biblical flood levels and can be built on land or sea.« Read less

Every now and then in architecture we get these “new ideas” many are interesting ideas and eventually find some aspect becoming a part of the design process (ex: solar panels) but most are a little over the edge. Confidentially most architects couldnt engineer their way out of a wet paper sack, thats why we hire engineers to make our ideas work in reality. This looks a lot like the ideas first pur forth by Paulo Solari way back in the 60’s but he figured it could only work if the entire city was designed as a living breathing machine, his Arcologies were enormous, but they could be built using todays standards and would be selfcontained living dwellings for many 1000’s of people

But if you dont want to wait and really like the idea of living in a Habitrail, well here you go: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJW4RAUDBBo

That one would be ArcoBabel II B, and it’s on the cover of the book.
