The after the Flood problems on CP Railway

The flood waters of the raging Bow and Elbow rivers receed and then… the bridge at the southend of Ogden/Alyth yard gives way as an eastbound, 102 car freight is crossing it. It just so happens that the 5 tankers that get stranded carry petroleum products.

The administration of the City of Calgary - from the mayor on down - is not impressed. They didn’t need the additional problems - sewer plant shut down, additional evacuations, closing of major road arteries, overloaded emergency personell etc. etc. - on top of copying with the flood.

Will be interesting to see the Transportation Safety Board report on this one … and the one on the “sudden wheelbearing failure” near Sudbury.

Very recent updated news report.

Additional updated information

What’s with the extra “http://www.http.com//” on the front of the recent news link?
And what protocol does Calgary use for videos?
Nothing I have in FireFox works.
I’ll try IE.

Hmmmm, I don’t know, if I go to “edit” the links are the proper format, no double. Since I’m “an old fart” I miss the old format where everything worked as one would expect. But I file this format under “progress???”.

I could understand it if there were a function/dialog box in which you insert the URL, but since it’s done manually there shouldn’t anything be added.

Leave out the URL tags.

Copy shortcut, paste into FireFox (LSC is opened in my old links in IE), shows up like this:

http://http//www.calgaryherald.com/news
That’s two http’s.
Enter, it comes up:
http://www.http.com//www.calgaryherald.com
on a domain registration site for, of all things, http.com .

Billy Gates is at it again , folks!

EVENTUALLY it opened in IE…then I get to watch the requisite movie trailer…then 56 seconds of reporting.
I guess y’all up across the parallel do things a tad different. First time I recall seeing five bars on epaulets.
Four is a Bird Colonel or Navy Captain…go to Flag Rank after that with stars…odd.

Ralph,

I hate putting in those long URLs, they look like “clutter”.

Not for the Fire Serrvice… Five Bugles Crossed is a Chief. Five Stripes accordingly at least by tradition…varies from area to area…

I understand.

But “cluttered” and working is better than “clean” and not working
You could also use tinyurl as Kevin Strong does.

But…but…when one spends time trying with exceeding concentration NOT to do things like KS…one does not want to fail accidently and do so, now, does one?

Yeah, why would one do two extra steps if one remembers the exact HTML method?

Maybe you could write a six part series on your newly gained knowledge?

I save those for my hobby website on which I try to anticipate all the questions and post a lot of minutae about how to do it and snarky remarks how not to do it (in English and German)

I agree, but my “snarky German” is a bit rusty. I may need help getting the proper CVs.

Greg

Maybe HJ could proofread for you…I hear that’s going around.

It’s a glitch of the new forum software. If you are using URL tags, do not include http:// in the link and it will work fine.

Jon,

Yeah, I tested that in the “test forum”. Some of the “features” in the new software are a bit harder to understand.

Not that I’m learning resistant, it’s just that I look at the “logical way” and take it from there. Which gets me into plenty of trouble, most of the time.
