Large Scale Central

The 2014 Invasion of Ottawa, Day 4

Day 4, Sunday. We visit Doug’s Northland Railroad in Manitick.

His garden just gets more lush every year!

Paul Norton and Jean enjoy the panorama.

Way down at the other end, Ken and Grant wait to take out their train.

Looking back towards the entrance…

Doug completed his car float over the winter.

Andy and I are going to team up to take out a long train, while Fred will observe.

There’s 18 cars in the train, and it’s heavy pulling, but Andy’s diesel isn’t bothered by the grade.

Passing the station at Rosseau.

We didn’t need a helper for the grade, but it sure is nice to have for the switching here, so I bring out my RS-3.

We finally make it down to Crown Point, while Doug looks on.

Here we pick up another train and head out.

Switching Sequin Falls.

We had to head back early so left just at the lunch break. Meanwhile, the adventures continue.

Nice looking layout.

Very nice layout. The landscaping looks great, my kind of woods.

At Doug’s on Sunday, I worked the Crown Point Yard. This included emptying the car float as a balanced load, one car off one side, then two off the other and so forth until it was empty. Also have to stay clear of the Canadian Passenger train coming into the wharf and then turn the head end car and observation car for its return trip. Once the Canadian leaves, Andy and Bruce’s train worked its way to Crown Point and came in to pick up our made up train plus leave us cars to sort with a “Hazardous Material Car” in the middle that has to always be handled with at least one car between it and the engine.

To add flavor, Doug staged a hornet’s nest under some of the trackage and the little scouts and dive bombers had to be avoided, while paying attention to the clock and the traffic coming in and out.

Another new idea to keep everyone on their toes.

Some people just seem to think of everything to keep their guest happy.

Real nice layout here. And all the pics are great for those of us not able to attend.

Doug sent Babara out for some Bug Bomb. It got taken care of…

Great looking layout, I really like the woods and the car float

Photo was actually done by Barb Matheson, passed to me by Doug, then sent to Jon for posting here. Great job on the cropping, photo editing or whatever you did to make it so clear.

I am reminded of the sculpture ‘The Thinker’. A great pose Fred.

“Here I sit and sometimes ponder. Sometimes I just sit.”

I am reminded of the famous statue by Rodin ‘The Ponderer’…

Ottawa Valley GRS

I am reminded of the epic battle between Rodin and Godzilli.

Very nice layout!

Just my opinion…

That’s what it looks like to me, too.

Yeh Fred’s trying to remember where he put it!
