Large Scale Central

That moment when you know you should have stayed in bed

This is what happens when a crew does not properly check the alignment of a switch point derail before moving. It’s a shame the videographer did not know how to “read” switch points. You can clearly see that the derail is set in the derailing position in the video. If only he had noticed…

HOLY COW!! some volunteer just got demoted to toilet scrubber 2nd class…

Very lucky that passenger car stopped just short of the derail or they would have had even more clean-up to do.

I would have liked to watch them actually putting her back on the track! is there a Vid 4?

Any video of them rerailing the locomotive and tender Joe?.

I searched but could not find a video of the re-railing of 46521.

Who’s the handsome-looking guy in your avatar, Joe?

I wonder why the derailer was turned to derail??

Jake,

The default position of any derail is in the derail position. Protects equipment from rolling where it shouldn’t. So in this case it worked perfectly as designed…

Me too. The comments in the third video mentioned that it was getting late (5:30 PM) and with no movement of the crane yet, the camera person went home. If it had been me I’d have staye for hours waiting for the action.

John,

That is one of my heroes. That, my friend, is the REAL John Luther “Casey” Jones.

Well I never… it couldn’t get much cooler than that, Joe! Awesome!
