I just wanted to start a new thread to express my grattitude for the incredible amount of work you have put into this transition. It is just mind boggling that you could make such a major change with no major issues and very few minor ones.

I haven’t been here from the beginning (when LSOL imploded for thr first time), but I was amoung the first wave that bailed on MLS to find a new home here so many moons ago. I’m sure very few of the current group of acttive users remember the first version of the forum.

Folks, this is the 3rd completely re-built version of our forums. Unlike other sites, our host realizes the value of the post database. With both the first upgrade and this recent one Bob would not accept abandoning or archiving old posts. This fact alone makes Large Scale Central the most comprehensive collection of information on this subject anywhere. Try finding a post from 5 or even 3 years ago on any of the other sites.

For this I say to Bob (and Martha for putting up with him)

Especially for keeping the old posts. Whilst I was relinking them the other day I found a couple of “How To’s” I did not have linked. They now are.

Thanks, gang. I’ve never understood the “Oh, lets just archive the old posts” mentality of any site Ive ever been on. Some of them even delete messages over 90 days old!

Both the last software upgrade (2006 I think) and this one, it was imperative I keep all the old posts. Sites do that to sped things up, because of poorly written software packages. I had to do a lot of database code optimization to allow the old posts to stay, and keep access time to a reasonable level.

Yes, the old posts are VERY useful and I really appreciate all the work that goes into doing that.

I am constantly using them as a resource. I also like the ability to go back and edit posts so I can keep the pictures.

I still have pictres on-line that were linked in old MLS posts that are long gone but I don’t delete them because A) I don’t want to break any newer posts where I might have linked them and B) I have nearly unlimited space on the web that costs very little.

Thank you for all you do. Thanks for figuring out whatever was keeping me from uploading pictures from my Mac. Working flawlessly now. You knows your computer stuff.

Jon, I did too, then I found out the posts have been eliminated/deleted/destroyed on MLS. Over here, I’ve gone back and edited the threads that have pictures that have moved.

It’s very nice to be able to fix things here. And, it IS just nicer here.

It’s nice to have that ability (to fix older posts) but i don’t have the patience to go back through old posts to try and find things that need fixing. If I happen to notice, or someone asks than I’ll try and fix any broken posts. I know with the change in the url to older forum posts that some of my inter-linked posts are now broken, but I don’t remember which posts were linked together.

Im looking at a way to troll through all forum posts and do the substitution to the new forum url format. So that will fix the interlink issue.
