Ten wheeler overhaul

It has already been done! lol. And it does look much better!

There have been locos throughout history of stem in USA where boiler jacketing extended over smokebox: always look odd to me - if ya got a smokebox, flaunt it!

Alright, still waiting on the cab- should be here, built, and installed by the end of this week. In the meantime I decided to build the tender. This was all free-build. I looked at a few pictures, figured out the height I wanted and the basic idea. I have steps on the side leading up the oil valve for filling. And the railings were bent for the water spout. The hatch is located under the decking that is hinged to lift for access. I “may” do railings on each side. Not sure yet though. And still debating a rear light as well. I may build it on the cab. We will see. Here are some pics. Also, the smokebox has been “grayed” up a bit. Had to get rid of the straight black on there. Just didn’t look right to me. Hope you are enjoying the progress, I know I sure am! Matt

So, we'll see the light" and the light will illuminate the darkness?

Arrr, can’t find one right now, and the ones coming to mind were the 1800s oil burning boxed headlights anyway; but there are photos out there in books and magazines of having rear of cab roof notched to fit h/l mounted to top of cab back wall.

Yep, a lot of where I have seen the cab mounted rear lights are on a lot of overseas narrow gauge. Mainly on smaller plantation railroads or something of that nature.

Matt,
Nice job. Your Ten Wheeler is going to look great with the new tender.
Ralph

Thanks a lot Ralph. Scratchbuilding has turned out to be a lot of fun.

I still have a lot of pipe left… after this project is finished I’m thinking about a string of narrow gauge frameless tank cars! How cool would that be to build?

Nice work on the overhaul, Matt.
