Technical Question for TOC

Ok Gotta problem with the front truck on my scratchbuilt Shay, seems that the plastic bits that hold the power pickupsin place have just…disentigrated…as such no juice going to the motor…I can tell witht he meter that juice is ging as far as the pickuptabs themselves which have the feed wires soldered to them. Is there a way of by pasing the pickups and wiring to the motor? Am I better off to scrounge new pickups? Or just replace the whole truck?

Absolutely!
To be able to easily remove the trucks in the future, do the following:

Remove the truck and then the bottom cover.
Remove the pickups completely.

The little brass angle the motor leads are soldered to, unsolder, set the angles aside.
Leaving the vertical brass strips in place, move the wire to the end of the strip and solder it to it (tin the brass first).
Then, obtain a couple of appropriate thickness styrene scraps and wedge the brass strip to the wall of the housing, with the styrene against the motor.

Re-assemble.

ALLLLLLRIGHTY!!! shes been rewired, lubed up and out dor a stroll through the yard…Thanks Dave!

Now whist I’m thinking of it…is there anysort of lubricating materials that can be used on a Shays guts that we can get at the average hardware store? hate payin shipping on an itty bitty tube, and its pretty much hit er miss with the Local Hobby Shops…
