Large Scale Central

Technical Modeling forum

Due to popular demand, I’ve created a forum and file area for discussion and sharing of information, data, stories, etc, for those LSCers that are using tools such as 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC machines, etc, to aid in their modeling.

The files area is accessible from the main menu (under Folders). I will be integrating this into the forum itself as time permits.

As always, report any bugs to me at rmccown at gmail dot com.

Wow this was fast, see I’m following and maybe some day will be a contributor! thanks Bob from the PAZ (Bob).

Should be an interesting forum.

I’m thinking that you might have a sticky explaining each machine and what it can produce for any beginner, You never know…
Keep up the great work Bob!

I recently decided to try 3-D printing. I bought a Prusa i3 MK3 kit. My wife has been printing up a storm. I have been printing things for my RR, naturally. I just finished this print of a tipper ore car. I added Bachmann metal wheels since I do not run plastic wheels on the HDRR. They add some weight to it and a lower center of gravity. I will probably do some painting on it. The files are available on line at Thingiverse, com.

Joe: I’m interested in that ore car. I tried searching at the thingiverse and struck out. Do you have a direct link to the plans for that? Thanks!

Jim,

I actually used two Thingiverse file sets. You take a look and decide for yourself which pieces you prefer.

Awesome. Just finished putting together my birthday present, a Creality Ender 3 pro 3D printer. Perfect timing.

Be sure if you print this you use PETG or ABS filament. PLA does not do well in the sun. It softens.

I needed some paint on mine before putting it in service. Here it is out on the RR…

Good advice, thanks, didn’t know that. For now I’ll just practice as all I have is one roll of white PLA. I just got the printer put together last night, I have not tested it out yet except to test home it and move the axis around a bit. It seems to be well made, all aluminum and everything went together perfectly. Looking forward to getting up to speed on it. I’ve been trying out the slicing software, I downloaded Cura, it seems pretty easy. What do you use?

Martin,

I use Slic3r. I have a Prusa i3 MK3 printer and Prusa supplies their own tailored edition for their printers. You can download the original at http://slic3r.org/ (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Hey so I have years of 3D printing experience now so I’m happy to provide help and support when asked.
