Large Scale Central

TARR Steaming last Sunday

While you guys were enjoying Cabin Fever and Diamondhead, I was stuck here in SW Florida putting up with the sun and heat. We went over to Coconut Creek to meet friends for lunch, so I took a few small locos to run on the Tradewinds & Atlantic RR g-1 track. Here’s a very short video.

If you want the Hi-Def version that will go fullscreen, click here: https://youtu.be/nUGe1dd3wJE

Looks like fun Pete,

Will the Roy Woods loco run more slowly?

Diamondhead was fun. I had to leave before the cajun lunch and entertainment which was a bummer. Also it is quite a drive and I’m accustomed to flying. Next year it could be possible to start with Cabin Fever then go to DH, both in one week. We’ll see how I feel when it gets closer. Some friends are talking about going by train. Another adventure.

I always liked the Roy Wood loco. I image it runs slower and pulls well?

Well, you can throttle it back a lot more so it will run slower than in that video! But in general, oscillating cylinders spin very fast and this loco has direct drive, so it doesn’t want to go slow. The Regner’s are geared for that reason - I think the Chaloner is about 8:1. [So is “Dora” though that’s another fast loco!]

I have no idea what it can pull, as I only have the 1 car for it, with Ma, her daughter and the grandkids along for the ride.
