Switching Equinox

Nice work Bruce! But I can’t get a clear picture of 9 not being in the way during moves 12 and 22. But even so, much more than I’d want to go through I give you 1 reputation point and a thank you for that work

It could be. I lost my mind several times writing that out. I’m still not sure if it would really work, and I’m not sure my mind is ready to walk through it yet again.

You just leave it be you did great. That’s one you need to see as you’re doing it to be sure. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

To those that care ‘FIND MORE SWITCHING PUZZLES’ post for enjoyment

Aaron, we had to call tow trucks in to get the forklifts unstuck from all the spillage inside those boxcars… The bill will be in the mail… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Well, ok (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)but split the bill between me and Ric, I think those bottles sounded a little broke before I got my hands on those cars haha(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

Would there be a possibility of the pick up list being at the station. Or a written change of orders there. Remember this puzzle was written way back when. Maybe before radio communications were on board?

I don’t know as I don’t run real trains

Good point, I hadn’t thought of that aspect, but in theory a more complicated move like this would be made easier with 5 crew members. Granted the fireman and conductor wouldn’t get too many switches but even have 3 guys on the ground instead of 1 or 2 as we have now it makes a big difference. I wonder if MR got this from a prototype plan and modified it, or it was a John Allen type of creation (ala, timesaver).

And railroads would do crazy switches to spot industries like this. Now the railroads would just tell the shipper to buzz off, and you would end up with trucks taking the product around, with the final product going to a team track/transload.

Bruce,

You, Sir, are a better man than me for working that out. Must be raining in the DC area, today.

Aaron,

I’m shocked, we handle all carloads and railroad property with absolute care. Just ask Andy and the other Friday night guys.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

It’s funny. I enjoy switching Jackson on my RR, because sometimes it’s very tough, other times it’s pretty easy (and it’s never even close to 100 moves). I don’t think this one is ever easy - and to me that’s the real downfall. I want variety. Oh well - I have my own puzzles and I’m happy with them. (It wasn’t raining today, but 92 degrees in May makes me want to stay inside.)

We had that last week. Enough to change campsites out by the Lake. I guess the body isn’t acclimated enough yet for higher temps. I don’t know if I ever acclimate to above 85. GOD help me, I think I’m turning Canadian.

I may have to investigate this lol(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Ric…God is helping you, if you feel you are becoming “Canadian”…!!!

WAIT!!! Ric’s not ““Canadian””???

Wow Bruce, I can’t believe you wrote that whole thing up - and that Hollywood read and followed every step!!!

I have one track on my RR that must be serviced by a local switcher to move needed cars to an arrival/ departure track for the train to drop or pick up. There is only room for the switcher and one car to escape this track on to the arrival/departure track. This little puzzle alone is enough to keep me busy for quite a while if a needed car needs to be drilled out one car at a time. There is no run-around, so when drilling for a car the train must help be clearing the arrival/departure track.

Hard to describe, but easy to see. It is Willow Hill Freight Station, at the far right…
