Switch throws from Heyn / Modellbau Werkstat

All-

After finding these online, and getting a a pair of used ones sent to me by a nice person in Germany, I am thinking about ordering some for the railway.

More pix on another site, and their intersting wheel chock here too:

They appear to be well made (brass with resin bases) and have three advantages to the LGB manual ones:

  1. Prototypical (European) appearance

  2. Won’t double as a Uncle Milton’s Ant Farm on my railway (ants love the Lehmann ones for whatever reason).

  3. Less likely to gum up with dirt and mud.

I posted this as I figured that someone else might find this of interest, or may have experience with Bertram Heyn’s products.

Maybe Axel at Train Li can get them.

Bertram Heyn actually has good terms for US sales, but thanks for the suggestion tho!

Those are nice. Would they be easy to make?

I don’t think I could make them for the price Shawn. The base is cast resin, that could be easy. The other is CNC cut brass, not so easy, there is actual small metric hardware (again not cheap) and the levers are cast brass…again not cheap.

I could get all I need for the NStLB for around $200 and change, the investment in resin casting would be that alone, not sure what the CNC costs would be…investment brass casting, oy vey!

The switchstands look great , I just wish the info was in english , and priced in dollars .

What do you need to know Dennis? Also, with the 19% VAT removed and a $1.20ish to EUR 1 exchange rate right now, the price is basically the dollar amount.

I can understand some folks being hesitant to order from Europe due to the distance, language and logistics, but in my years of importing (and exporting) everything from CDs to model trains to Citroen and Mercedes auto parts, it is really not as difficult as one can imagine.

The things to watch for are vendors that will not remove VAT (and pocket your money) or some (especially in Germany) that insist on bank transfer (common payment method in Germany) only.

I think I found Nirvana. The switchstands are nice enough, but that industrial pointwork … and those mini turntables … gotta find me some money :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes, the indy points are cool, and I am RESISTING theturn table they make for the LGB Austrian U class. Tiny things on many of the Austrian lines that a U class loco can j-u-s-t fit on…

Actually, the H0e version I have was not that much different in price!

Wow, its a good thing I’m done with my trackwork, I’d be spending alot of money I shouldnt be.

Yes, a lot of fodder for small layouts there Vic!
