Swiss invade Liechtenstein

Navigation seems not to be a Swiss Army Skill…

Swiss troops march into tiny Liechtenstein by mistake

ZURICH, Switzerland Swiss soldiers marched by mistake into neighboring Liechtenstein (LIK’-tuhn-shtyn), but nobody noticed.

The soldiers got lost on a training exercise and got about a mile past an unmarked border and into the tiny principality before realizing their mistake.

The soldiers had weapons, but no ammo.

Neither the neutral Swiss nor officials of Liechtenstein expect any diplomatic consequences.

About 34-thousand people live in Liechtenstein, which is slightly smaller than Washington, D-C, and does not have an army.

Well, that’s what they get for not putting a compass on their famous knives…

Kevin,

That has been considered, but rejected because it would interfer with peeling apples and picking one’s teeth.

It’s time to read “The mouse that roared” again!

Of course the other problem with that incursion is: They wouldn’t even notice if they would have headed to the closest bar/restaurant/store or whatever.
Liechtenstein has the same currency as Switzerland and also a Customs union which allows for unfettered trade across the “Border”.

I think Marvin is scraping the bottom of the barrel with his most recent posts.

How did talking about the Swiss Army invading another country have anything to do with scraping bottoms of barrels?

Did you do worse on your navigation training that’s why you were thrown out after only a few days in the Swiss Army? And were you even in long enough to keep your Swiss Army Knife?

He wouldn’t even know how to open the bloody thing , now would he ?

But Marvin,

They would have dearly loved to have me put in more time… alas… it was not to be.

As far as orienteering goes … well, I certainly never got lost in the army (not even when the corporal wished that I should have! ).

And, if I may say so myself, I’m pretty good at reading maps. Get to practise with the present job, you know!

When the “Swiss Invasion of Liechtenstein” makes CBC Radio1 News you know the Swiss have arrived

Hmmmmmm … what I liked best on that snippet was the supposed comment by one soldier that “It was really dark”.
Imagine that! It’s really dark at night!

Sounds like as good an excuse as any when the nearest pub is on the other side of the border…

It can happen…currently I have registered getting lost twice on the way to the outhouse…and it’s only 40 feet from the bunk house…
I have to admit that I’m usually travelling around in a fog, so getting lost is not out of the ordinary…but on the way to the two holer, creates a bit of a panic at times…!!!

“Fog” is a very typical occurrence in the Rhine Valley where Liechtenstein borders on Switzerland. Has been the contributing factor of countless car pileups - the other one being the aggressive Swiss drivers (For good reason I haven’t driven in CH since 1972! They’re just too “crazy”!)
