" Canada’s Largest and Best Model Train Show "

Sincerely,

Doug Cannon
{for CMRS}

"G-Gauge may not RULE, but it GROWS on YA !! "

p.s.
"In 2008, I saw three manufacturers of LS product attend SUPERTRAIN; Sunset Depot (regional), P&J CustomCastings (Canada’s W.coast), and of course AccuCraft (with VP of Sales, up from LasVegas).

As far as the organizers of the show were aware, NO small scale manufacturer could be bothered. Albeit, I was the one to enlighten them about the three LS manufacturers in attendance at ST’08 !

Even though the whole weekend outdoors was one huge early spring (freak) snowstorm, officially 8700 members of the public came thru the doors at our new venue. And the vendor feedback indicated they were very happy with the business generated by the MR enthusiasts who call G-Gauge/Garden Railways their hobby (and even the small scale vendors were quite happy)! "‏

p.p.s. THANKS to CGST for getting on board like . . . . over a month ago, with advertising on their home page: http://www.canadagscaletrains.com/

Ahhhh YES !!! . . . . Less than 2 weeks to Canada’s BIG show.

The CMRS (volunteer) webmaster finally was given both listings for exhibitors/layouts:
http://www.supertrain.ca/Exhibitors.html
(note the international manufacturers listed, and some not so apparent due to sharing a vendors booth)

AND Floor plans:
Field level;
http://www.supertrain.ca/FloorPlans/...IN%20final.pdf
Entry Level;
http://www.supertrain.ca/FloorPlans/...ER%20final.pdf

Even though you have plans to attend BUT for some reason you have been told you have less than a couple hrs. to spend at THE show {i feel for ya} you should head straight to Field ‘D’ where it seems the majority of G-Gauge willl be happenin’ You will forego some of the odds’N ends of G-Gauge sprinkled thruout the other 3 fields, BUT when ya only have less than a couple hrs alloted . . . ya got to make sacrifices

SOoooooo of course, we’ll have Z to ‘Ride-on’ (it looks like the Airdire crew has the potential of a extended length of space for their track to offer rides to kids of all ages . . . . . last yr they were in the abbreviated end of the mezzanine flr. ) The CMRS facility crew obviously shelved the previously posted idea, for additional vendor space up on that space (too narrow i think for vendor booths) and offered it to the ‘ride-on’ crew !

If you’re planning on being in town for the show and like to volunteer . . as it sounds like there ARE still a few slots left in various positions ---- contact: greg.cave at shaw dot ca .
One of the tangible perks to volunteer for a 2hr shift slot is free admission Personally i signed-on again for a security slot each day.
{one of my more memorable personal volunteer moments was a couple yrs back, when i was assigned to help monitor the exit dr and at the same time, there was a father with his daughter of maybe 8yrs old she especially had a great time being in charge of rubber stamping any of the kids who wanted a train-themed ink stamp on their hand . . . i took care of the adults and the occ. kid when the father/daughter team were swamped with others, using my line of “how about a train stamp on your hand . . . helps ya feel so much younger instantly”, … which had majority of peoples leaving the venue with even bigger smiles than before (even w/o a stamp) !!!}

Also according to the floor plan, a local Radio station will be broadcasting occassionally from ST’09. So if you’re driving into the show after the opening hr of 9a.m. you may wish to tune into AM 1060 .
OR if you’re stuck at home somewheres else (world ?) April 18 & 19th with computer access, link-up to the stations live streaming; http://www.classiccountryam1060.com/player/player
{pssst this is a commercial country music station ! }

p.s. Personally, I’ve labelled our show as a IASTS !!

p.p.s. i’m the short guy with the long greasy mop of hair, w/glazed black eye and other w/eye patch, pulling a 4-wheeled cart loaded with my cameras (when not in use), . . . . bowed over from the weight of a SUPERTRAIN /Security/CMRS/LSOL/ ID Badge/Pins neck lanyard . . . . potentially drooling all over the new G-Gauge gear or exhibits that will be on-site . . . . . he he he he he he

Doug,

I’ll try to make a very long weekend of it, provided the weather forecast is reasonable and the weather knows better than last year! :smiley: In my case that would mean Friday and Monday on the road shooting video through the passes and the weekend at the show. Haven’t run it by SWMBO, yet, but that shouldn’t be a problem at all, at all, at all … Haven’t been to a decent show in a while!

What a great show that was!! I would have liked to have seen a lot more of layout 123.

L123 According to the flr plan from last yr that was the “SalmonArmModelRailwayGroup” travelled all the over the Rockies from of course . . . SalmonArm area, B.C.

I THINK they had both ho and n , as there seemed to two layouts from the same area It was a tad confusing :wink:

I shot 35 minutes of (analog) vid which i subsequently shared with 5+ LS manufacturers Geeez I had to take a couple looks at the person admiring the E8 at the KellyKaboose booth it looked like me but i don’t see no red knapsack.

YouTube vids due to the sites’ compression needs just don’t cut it ! The contributors DO tend to have good quality film but it is lost when uploaded . . . . THANKS for the link and also to Hudder for posting on Y’tube I’m sure a few more MR enthusiasts will attend ST’09 after seeing the vid’

HJ hope ya get approved and have a great trip over the Rockies. I can’t guarantee (as each person has diff. scaling system) but I don’t think you’ll be disappointed in the show !!

I stopped into a vendor to pickup some more show flyers early this pm, and one of the owners who attended the TO show back in Nov. expressed some major concerns re’ that show. I can’t remember his exact words from that negative experience, but to reiterate from our various adverts/exhibitors/ind. feedback ; "SUPERTRAIN- Canada’s BEST/Biggest/Largest/Professionally (albeit volunteer org.) presented ASTS ! "

And earlier at another local vendor today i actually ran into a (30something) small scale MR hobbyist who had never heard about SUPERTRAIN. With one of our mini-posters I pulled out of my dayplanner, he now does ! But I NEVER did ask if they had just recently moved into this part of the world :wink:

nite,
doug c

Doug,

There’s no remedy for not being clued in. :lol:

Anyway SWMBO has season tickets for the Vancouver Opera and that season is over, sooooooooooo now it’s my turn! :wink: :slight_smile: As far as scale is concerned, no problem anything from Z to LS, just as long as it is good modeling (considering the constrictions of portability). :slight_smile:

Wouldn’t you know: it’s raining! GRRRRRRRR
Departure delayed by one day, supposed to be sunny tomorrow and rain again on Sunday. More or less sunny on Monday, this could still work out. :wink:

WHAT ! HJ ! Are you riding your bike thru the passes ?

Yeah it sounds like it could be a little colder in the higher elevations which usually means white stuff. Looking at the local forecast for tomorrow (10c) I think we’ll be ‘entertaining’ record crowds . . . . Sunday looks like a little warmer (16c) so when you make it in for Sunday things just MIGHT be a little quieter !

Hope ya all have a safe trip in to the show !!

hasta leugo,
doug c :slight_smile:

Doug,

Nope not riding the bike, but I’m not keen on standing in the rain shooting video. :wink:

I survived and returned. Videos coming up!

HJ,

Nice. Thanks for sharing.

THANKS again HJ !!

… the RMGR club modules are known to some as KCMs (kneecapmodulars) since at 22"H they tend to line up close to my kneecaps (yeah i was the one who came up with that and suggested it to their pres’ )

The club also acquired (from their peers) the show award, “First place - Scale Railroading”. They were obviously very impressed with how well the club has improved their layout utilizing the knowledge within the club and the technology available to bring together such a eyecatching display of G-Gauge gear for all ages !

Will link to your vids in an upcoming note out to some other peoples

later,
doug c

p.s. according to a recent CMRS newsletter, over 11,000 attended ST’09 (just over 6k was the first day) ! Everyone is quite impressed with this …

Doug,

Believe it or not I actually had a very good time. :wink: (No snickering from you-know-who!) The plan is to take our approx. 1:29 switching layout to the 2010 …

Had to interrupt the typing, a bear showed up at the back fence, but the younger Husky made such a racket the bear took off. :frowning: Didn’t get a picture! Ahhh maybe tomorrow, never leave the house for a walk without the camera. :slight_smile:

Anyway the switching layout is intended as hands on for the kids (when supervised by an adult :wink: ).
