Superior Railroad Museum Flooded?

Duluth Minnesota was hit by the worst flood in memory last night. Hotels have been washed away, Canal Park is under water. Massive sink-holes have swallowed cars and rising waters killed several Zoo animals (A polar bear was temporarily on the loose!).

My friends tell me the Lake Superior Railroad Museum is “under water”. If true this would be a huge loss to the railroad community. Many of the exhibits there are truly one of a kind.

This isn’t good news, but hopefully all is not lost. These museums have a way of coming back from the brink of doom. Juts look at the recoveries at B&O Museum in Baltimore, and the burned bridge on the C&TS.

Wow, a very nice museum. I remember going there as a kid and spending hours wandering around. My parents had to usually pull me away kicking screaming.

My wife still does…

I don’t want to say the floods were “biblical” but when you see this on the public streets thousands of miles from any ocean…

Yep, a seal on the city streets of Duluth. Poor guy, probably scared to death. Guess he’s back home now. No word yet on the Depot museum. There is now talk the media got it wrong and it might have been a train depot at the zoo.

For what it’s worth…Apparently the news media confused the Depot Museum with the train depot at the zoo. Minimal museum damage.

That is good to hear for the museum, not the zoo.
