Sunday Afternoon TE Mounting

I recently picked up a 27MHz TE and a Meanwell switching power supply for a pretty reasonable price and decided it needed a simple mounting that would allow good ventilation, easy transport (I plan to be able to use this on the move), and above all, cheap. What I came up with is a mounting on one side of an old computer case. So far I have only spent about $3.00 on some small fasteners at Lowe’s. Inside

The next phase is to create a cover for the other side, top and ends out of either expanded metal or hardware cloth. I have some of the hardware cloth on hand, but would prefer the expanded metal if I can acquire some. A bit of paint will complete the build. Will post more pics when completed. Bob C.

You need to save it as a jpg file to get an image…

If it is a .bmp file, you can add the img tags and it will display.

Just like tonight, too many hours without sleep. Not checking the work before pushing the post button. Got up at 3:30am this morning and did an 11 hour day. Came home to daughter and the grandkids impromptu visit (hosing dad’s plans to drop the truck off at the shop), and just now got them out the door. Getting too late to think too hard.

Be sure to add a fan to the TE receiver.
Manual states fan needed at 5 amps, Aristo site updated that to 3 amps or more, a fan should be added.

There is a socket inside with a feed from a 7812 regulator so a 12 volt fan can be used. I get mine from old computer power supplies.

Dan,

In the first pic, the white items on the RX is the fan guard. This will also be closed in with either expanded metal or hardware cloth, which ever I can get my hands on for cheap. The intent is to keep it as open to the air as possible.

If you are using that as shown, I’d at least cover over the 110v lugs on the power socket. Is that a fuse or breaker that is between the 110v socket and the on/off switch?

Greg

Greg,

I have plans to cover the other side with either expanded metal or hardware cloth, whichever I run up on first. The ends will be solid material of some shape or description, undetermined at this point. Sort of a slow work in progress.

Bob C.

I was hoping you would say that!

Could almost bend the top half down so it’s the same dimensions as the “base”.

Regards, Greg

Greg,

I had considered that, but I don’t have any means to keep the bend straight.

That’s where you clamp a piece of angle iron or wood on the inside, and “convince it” over with a little pressure and tappy tap with a wooden mallet…

Greg

HMMMM…

I may give that a try after all the new ‘Honey Doo’s’ the SWMBO dropped on the white board.
