As a Summerlands Chuffer owner and user I can highly recommend them, Easy install and great results.
I will also be at the ESLSTS with a decent supply of chuffers along a bunch of other live steam supplies, parts and a few engines to look at / buy…
I see you will also be at the PAGRS meet at Steamtown on Presidents day weekend. I’ll look you up :]
I ill second what Jon said. I have one in the Forney and they do make a hudge difference.
Sign me up for one for the Accucraft Shay. See you at the show.
Bruce - if you are looking to put one in the three cylinder version you might not be as impressed as you think The rapid impulses from the three-cylinder engine result in a loud warbling hiss rather than a discreet and distinct chuff sound.
Of course, you might hear things differently to me.

Thanks, Tac, but I have the 2 cylinder. Haven’t heard any bad things about this one, yet.
It sounds great in a 2Cyl when going slow. Check my video in Model Photography for a good demo. The chuffs do blend together at higher speeds, but then they should

Put a heavy load on it and it sounds even better.

Bruce, I will have it aside for you

Hey Jon,
I’ve been thinking of getting one. Can you point to your link? I looked on the last 2 pages and didn’t find it. Or better, do you have a before and after?
This is a pretty simple install, isn’t it?
Ric,check out the post right above yours…

Jason, please have one set aside for a 2 cyclinder shay for me, also.
Thanks, Ken. Nice video.
Hey Ric - I completely missed your post on this thread. Here’s the video…

The Candlewood Valley Scenic Railway took the opportunity of a light snowfall to boil some water and run their Steam & Snow Photo Special. Shay Locomotive #2 is shown making several run-bys at Coal Dump Curve on a chilly February day in 2013. Several times Shay #2 had problems with slippery rail on the steep curving grade, but conquered the hill in true Shay style.
I just got one for my AccuCraft ‘Edrig/Sam’. I’ll be fitting it this very evening and will post a movie ASAP.

I have a Summerlands Chuffer in two of my locomotives. My SP ten wheeler, and a two-truck shay.
What a great deal of realism these add. It makes “playing” trains that much more fun.
Thank you for promoting such a great product.
Matt
Ric, the Chuffer is very easy to instal. Its just a matter of screwing it in (Shut up Rooster)
Also if anyone wants to hear what it sounds like on specific engines go to the Summerland web site. He has a large selection of videos. Heres a link to the video finder

The heavier the load the better it sounds.
Hey Jon,
Just got to look at the video. FANTASTIC! Really liked the shoving of the cars uphill. I’ve got one ordered to pick up at York. Exciting!
V. impressed, us. Now going to fit one in my ‘Countess/Earl’. Seems that fitting one in Garratt is a RPITA. Looks like it, too.
Still, with 50-60 wagons ahint it, it sounds just fine to me.

PS - I put a little video on YT, but I’m a bit ashamed of it. If anybody REALLY wants to see it, please PM me, I’m not going to otherwise publicise it.
