Summerlands Chuffer in 'Earl'

Yuppers. Shooting old black powder guns in the morning, playing trains in the afternoon, eating chocolate gateau in the evening - what could be better than that, eh?

Well, it could have taken place in Canada or Orygon, but y’can’t have everything.

If you could, well, there wouldn’t be anything to look forward to, now would there?

Here is my original Pearse Couness @ Diamondhead earlier this year. I think it’s about time for a Summerlands Chuffer…

Tom, here are the part numbers for the Pearse locomotive chuffers -

Earl and Countess (except very early) SCGP1

Earl and Countess (very early) SCRH1

You can’t go wrong with a Summerlands Chuffer.

Now to determine if my Countess is early, or very early.

Do tell how old it is, a serial number maybe? and I’ll call Ian tomorrow while I’m over that way

Tac,

It’s Serial # 203.

Tom, thanks for that - I talked to Graham [one third of AccuCraft UK], and he gave me this advice -

Tac, Hi! There is no easy way at this range, Ian wasn’t that involved
with Pearse models, it was his father’s baby. Simon Whenmouth of
Anything Narrow Gauge has set himself up as a Pearse specialist (he
had all the remaining spares off Mike Tees) and may have an idea.

Regards, Graham.

If you like, I’ll give him a call as I’m not likely to see him until the April show just up the road from me at Peterborough.

'kay?

That would be good, Tac. Perhaps he will know the vintage, given the serial number.

Tom. I just spoke to Simon Whenmouth - owner of ‘Anything Narrow Gauge’ - who has two of Don’s Countess locos in the workshop right now. He’ll be calling me back with an assessment of what constitutes an early or very early loco as the exhaust pipes have a different arrangement. Meanwhile, if you can tak the smokebox off by removing either two or four little screws and lifting it up and forward, that would be a start. Simon also keeps ALL the chuffers. Oddly enough, he does not have a website…

Get to work!

OK, just spoke to Simon now - he can fix you up no problem. He does PayPal and all the cards, BTW.

Email him - anythingnarrowgauge[at]googlemail.com

Tell him you spoke to me about it, and that you have the SINGLE EXHAUST pipe version. Right this minute he is on his way to the Stafford Show tomorrow, BTW.

He’ll see you OK - his rep hereabouts is HUGE!

Anything else, while I’m feeling philanthropic?

Hi Tac

I will have a look this evening but I am sure I have one in stock.  Where will I be sending it or is it going to picked up at a show.

Tac,

Thanks for your help on this.

Chuffer on order from Simon. Video to follow…

De nada, Senor - happy to be of some use to somebody sometime somewhere somehow.

Today was a day when the space on the 'frigerator door for honey-do’s was just not big enuff any more.

I’ll be painting the shed by moonlight - that is, IF it stops raining.

Well, the Summerlands Chuffer finally arrived. I installed it, and was a bit worried, because I cut the exhaust tube a bit short. That didn’t seem to effect the operation, as you can see on this roller test…

Tom - sounds good to me, and it’s nice to see a ‘Nerl’ with the valve gear going in the right direction, too.

Me and Geoff will be off to the Great Eastern Large Scale Train show in a couple of weeks, so if anybody has a hankering gor anything unobtainalbe in North america that I can bring over at the end of May when we are in Orygoon, please ask.
