Summerlands Chuffer in 'Earl'

Here’s a short movie demonstrating the great sound obtained from fitting one of Chris Bird’s Summerland chuffers in an AccuCraft ‘Earl’. The green cars are my conversion jobs from the Newqida range of LGB knock-offs, and go a little way to replicating a couple of MÁV [Hungarian] NG cars from the Szuszi/Puzsta RR in Eastern Hungary that are actually running 'here in Mid-Wales on the Welshpool railway. The article on their conversion featured in the British Garden Rai’l magazine a while back.

As I noted, please overlook the clutter in the backyard, we are in the middle of a backyard makeover, and it will look a lot worse afore it’s better.

tac, ig, ken the GFT & The Birthday Boys [yes, it’s our birthday today - I’m mumble-seven years old and feeling every minute of it.

Happy Birthday TAC, t’is the bride’s also.

and a Happy Birthday to you all…

May the GFO turn a benevolent eye-trumpet on you all - whinemeal, I’ve just had my birthday cake - a piece of Belgian Chocolate gateau that would be v. hard to describe.

My lucky bride is away in Chester having an extended girl’s weekend away from her rapidly fading old man, who was forced to play trains ALL day until it got too dark to see what he was doing…

Best to all - steam, electric or clockwork, even push-along - we loves 'em all, us.

Happy birthday tac. Great way to spend it, running trains. That sounds great with the chuffer.

Yuppers. Shooting old black powder guns in the morning, playing trains in the afternoon, eating chocolate gateau in the evening - what could be better than that, eh?

Well, it could have taken place in Canada or Orygon, but y’can’t have everything.

If you could, well, there wouldn’t be anything to look forward to, now would there?

Best to All

Here is my original Pearse Couness @ Diamondhead earlier this year. I think it’s about time for a Summerlands Chuffer…

Tom, here are the part numbers for the Pearse locomotive chuffers -

Earl and Countess (except very early) SCGP1

Earl and Countess (very early) SCRH1

You can’t go wrong with a Summerlands Chuffer.

Now to determine if my Countess is early, or very early.

Do tell how old it is, a serial number maybe? and I’ll call Ian tomorrow while I’m over that way

Tac,

It’s Serial # 203.

Tom, thanks for that - I talked to Graham [one third of AccuCraft UK], and he gave me this advice -

Tac, Hi! There is no easy way at this range, Ian wasn’t that involved
with Pearse models, it was his father’s baby. Simon Whenmouth of
Anything Narrow Gauge has set himself up as a Pearse specialist (he
had all the remaining spares off Mike Tees) and may have an idea.

Regards, Graham.

If you like, I’ll give him a call as I’m not likely to see him until the April show just up the road from me at Peterborough.

'kay?

That would be good, Tac. Perhaps he will know the vintage, given the serial number.

Tom. I just spoke to Simon Whenmouth - owner of ‘Anything Narrow Gauge’ - who has two of Don’s Countess locos in the workshop right now. He’ll be calling me back with an assessment of what constitutes an early or very early loco as the exhaust pipes have a different arrangement. Meanwhile, if you can tak the smokebox off by removing either two or four little screws and lifting it up and forward, that would be a start. Simon also keeps ALL the chuffers. Oddly enough, he does not have a website…

Get to work!

OK, just spoke to Simon now - he can fix you up no problem. He does PayPal and all the cards, BTW.

Email him - anythingnarrowgauge[at]googlemail.com

Tell him you spoke to me about it, and that you have the SINGLE EXHAUST pipe version. Right this minute he is on his way to the Stafford Show tomorrow, BTW.

He’ll see you OK - his rep hereabouts is HUGE!

Anything else, while I’m feeling philanthropic?
