Large Scale Central

Summer work

Today it’s back to moving road crusher. Get the driveway cleared, tomorrow the guys will show up to hydro-con jack the largish concrete pad at the front entrance. Has been settling for 35 years.

Tomorrow will also be the only day with a high of less than 30º C forecast for this week.

HJ
" hydro-con jack " can you give us a idea what this is?

The pad is 24ft x 8ft and the side that settled the most has two pyramid Steps as part of the pad. So they drill a hole pattern (1.5" holes) and then pump a special concrete slurry down those with a max pressure 2500PSI.

Which gradually lifts the whole pad as the slurry spreads under it. There you have it: hydraulic concrete jacking.

I probably pick a spot in the plant/flower bed to video the action.

Thanks HJ.
Will look forward towards the video.

Hmm,

I have a concrete pad in front of my garage that has sunk almost 2"

I could use such a service, but only if it was less than just totally replacing the pad!

A time lapse video would be fun to watch, unless it rises up fast in real time.

Slight delay. They had to finish at the other job site first, not unheard of here in the Valley.

Meanwhile at the back of the “Castle”, the digging proceeded at 06:50 and by 11:50 the shade was gone and it was getting too hot.

Setting the stones will keep 'til the shade moves to that location. While the place is a big construction site we had a buddy enlarge the patio i.e. less and less grass to cut.

Intermediate step, we’re getting there.

Off to get a few more rocks to hold the rest of the crusher in place.

69ºF with a severe thunderstorm watch in place (this afternoon), if there’s enough rain it should wash the track and compact the crusher.

Perils of garden railroading: chances to pinch a hand between a rock and a hard place (i.e. another rock) are substantial. However having the pinched area burst and bleed is a new one on me.

Learn something new every day.

Bummer. Make sure that you keep that pinch clean, but then you know that, don’cha… Ouch.

Yep, all good and clean AND I shoveled and placed the rest of the road crusher.

SWMBO has her usual parking spot back … that is until the load of finer crusher arrives. ETA Monday next week.

There wasn’t enough space to maneuver the machine around and have four people doing the ooops dance.

Anyway

Now it’s right back were it was many many years ago.

Thanks!

I’ll have to look into doing that.

AND take a before and after pic, too.

Five yards of finer Desert crusher to arrive today.

The way I figure it, three weeks to go until we leave on the VIA trip to Winnipeg, lets get as much as possible out of the way i.e. while the weather is good and way before the snow flies.

No, you don’t need a picture of the pile of crusher, do you?

Looking forward to three more days of nice temperatures - high 70s low 80s - and sunshine

Placing crusher, setting flagstone and running conduit and cables during the day.

Perfect weather, while doing the “heavy lifting” my mind wanders back to the days when I was putting down the carpet in the 29 x 29 ft train room. How easy that was compared to all the “extra landscaping” surrounding the garden layout.

HJ, You spend all summer doing heavy construction. You live in BC, so summer is short and winter long. When do you actually enjoy your garden?

Tom,

Our summer is plenty long and hot. Lots of enjoyment since Spring, Fall and Winter are moderate. Enough snow up in the mountains for skiing without having to put up with tons of snow in town.

Around here we call it Paradise!
