Styrene to wood

Have most of my building done, could not decide on siding and found a lot of large Styrene pieces that would work great as siding, what do I use to bond the Styrene to the wood, should I use just regular silicone caulking.

The wood is painted, the back of Styrene really does not have to be painted, it will have an awning covering it because it has a roof over a dock.

Thanks for the help.

I have used E6000. I’m sure there will be other suggestions for you.

I’ve used Goop to glue styrene to wood with good results. Just don’t use a lot since it will melt the plastic. Another good one would be Welder, which a few people pointed me to just recently. Acts like a contact adhesive. E6 solvent cement, which I think is the same as the E6000.

I agree with Ken. I’ve had excellent results with Welder. I made two bridge supports about 7 years ago by laminating Precision Products styrene sheets to a wood-based composite block and it hasn’t delaminated yet.

Is welder in a tube like silicone caulk?

Tom H

To the best of my knowledge it only comes in small tubes welder

As stated the contact adhesives will work just fine I like the 3m but welder,e6000,goop are all pretty much the same. However you can certainly use silicone caulk as well like 35yr painters caulk but make sure you use the paintable caulk and not like bathtub or automotive caulk because they will repel the paint.

It comes in a small tube like plastic cement would come in.

Here’s a pitcher…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

So, it looks like the “Professional” piece is only on the card; not the tube. It must be safe for me to use. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-embarassed.gif)

It does work well and used to be easy to find at Walmart; now I can only get it via mail order.
