Sturgeon's Sawmill

I was reading a back issue of NGSLG (Nov/Dec 2001) and saw an article on a film-making project that addressed the restoration of a very old steam-powered sawmill. So I went hunting for Sturgeon’s Sawmill on YouTube, and found this short film. It may or may not be the one from the article, I’m not sure because of the lack of credits. There are many other YT vids about the same place now, but this is high quality. Anyway, the place is really amazing, I’d sure love to visit it.

Here’s the mill’s web site,

Awesome! It’s so great that such a rare and historic facility has been preserved in its entirety, in working order.

Reminds me of Williams Grove here in PA

Fantastic ! Thanks so much for posting . . . . . (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)

What a great place. I wish it were closer, I’d love to visit.

Reminiscent of the small lumber mills that were everywhere in Washington State until 40 years ago.

Glad you liked it, guys!

Rooster, I just looked up Williams Grove, neat place (http://www.wghsea.org/). Be cool if they had an event on the Saturday or Sunday after ECLSTS, I’d be tempted to head on up.

Cliff,

Is this the video that Boone Morrison produced a few years back?

Rick

Cliff that was great. That is exactly the sort of mill I want for my indoor layout. I love these little mills.

Thanks Devon, I feel the same.

Rick, I no longer think it’s related to Boone’s work, after locating this film by him about the mill. Here’s the only info I could find on it:

I emailed Oso Publishing to ask about buying opportunities.

[edit] These folks seem to sell it,

Better than Saturday morning cartoons! (I think) Just the thing to watch while I ate my Fruity Pebbles. What a great mill, and even better that they are sharing and teaching it to future generations. Liked seeing that power wagon in passing too. Thanks for posting it Cliff!

In case anyone’s interested, I just got a reply back from the film publisher, stating where to get a copy.

Fruity Pebbles, cool!
