I use Li-ion battery packs in my rail polisher and one of them apparently shorted out internally and when I went to charge it, not knowing this, it smoked the charger too!
I have two 11.1 volt packs for the polisher and the shorted pack only reads ~4 volts across the first cell with no additional gain from the next two cells, whereas the good pack shows ~4, 8, then 12 volts across the three cells.
I never had a problem before. But this year I decided to increase the torque of the motor by adding supplementary neodymium magnets. Iām wondering if this could possibly have caused the problem (increased current draw?) and if so, I will remove the magnets before running it with the other pack.
Thoughts?
AAARGH!
