Streeeetching Bachmann's 2-8-0 frames for a C-21 and C-25

Sent one back to ya Chuck

Great work Rodney, you amaze me!

Thanks Jerry
What you and a lot guys on this board do amazes me for what tools they have available to them.
It’s all knowing what you want and knowing how to get there.

My problem is I’m too anal and want it as perfect as possible.

I have that problem sometimes as well.......Anal retentiveness is a disease that cannot be cured only curtailed with proper medication like alcohol! We want more pictures! ;)

There will be here soon. I have the prototype gearbox done and running on the layout. I'm working on cutting out the blanks for 10 more.

Rodney,Very Nice work on the C-25 build. I’ll be sure to follow this one!!!

Thanks Dave The original design for the gearbox didn’t work the way I wanted it to. I mounted to motor to the frame and ran a driveshaft to the gearbox. It was a lot of work to get the motor mounted so I redesigned it like the K-27’s gear tower where as the motor is mounted on the gearbox. A lot of what I make is in my head and I don’t draw anything out. Had I drawn this out I might of realized that it wouldn’t work very well in the first place and saved a lot of time. Here is the 1st gearbox. I forgot to take a pic of it mounted onto the frame

Here the gearbox blank and a idea of what the gear setup will be.

I also removed the counterweights off the crankpins

Back to work on the new gearboxes Rodney

Here is one of the new gearboxes done. I had to remake the bottom cap and got lazy (wanted to get one done) and didn’t round it off to corners.

Here is what it looks inside

I ran it on the layout for about a hour pulling a gon with about 20 pounds of lead in it

Great Work Rodney!!! I will be watching this post closely as i have thought of trying something like this.

Thanks Aaron I have it running on the layout with 2 gons with about 40 pounds of lead in them. I had it running so its pulls the 4% grade for about 3 hours and now have it running the other way where the grade is 2%. Here is the gons with the lead

Here is a short clip of it running at about 60% throttle http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/6153/lg2p.mp4 Rodney

nice!

I’m amazed at the run time with this new motor. With a Cordless Renovations 18.5 volt 5600 ma battery running at 65% on the throttle, it ran for
over 12 hours and the battery was not dead yet. It was pulling the 2 gons with 40 pounds of lead in them and it had no sound card hooked up.

I made the eccentrics out of delrin, the straps are alum, rod is spring steel and the bearing blocks and leavers are brass.

I cut the crosshead guides off the cylinders and here is the new ones I made. They are a bit long yet and cut to length.

Next will be the crosshead rear mount. Rodney

Excellent! Nice to see ya’ back in the saddle again Rodney!
…:)…

Nice to see you back Rodney! Great Work on the frame, can’t wait to see the finished results

Wowsa! That is going to be sweet!
