Large Scale Central

Strasburg RR

This week I took the family out to Lancaster PA to get away from all the rain we have been getting in NW Jersey. We decided last minute (Monday mid morning) to take a trip. We packed our stuff and three hours later arrived in Lancaster. Tuesday we headed to Strasburg for a fun filled day of trains. We started the day by riding the RR through Lancaster area. Then we hit the train museum. For lunch we hit the Caboose motel where we ate in the passenger car. While we ate we got to watch the G scale train running inside the gift shop. AFter lunch we hit the gift shop, thats where I found a Kalamazoo box car for a good deal. Of course I bought it since they are identical to the HLW stuff. Then it was off to the choo choo barn where we toured the layout (I have always loved this layout) Then we hit the train store upstairs. Again I got a great deal on a Kalamazoo Valley Forge car $21. Another good deal. By the time we got done we hit the hotel for a swim and to recoop. Then we went for dinner and shopped at the Rockvale outlets (have to do something the wife likes LOL) While their I hit the train shop at the outlets. The store had a great selection of trains and the best book collection. He has almost every book on trains or so it seems. The store was a bit high in price really wanted to buy something but I could not see spending the amount that he was asking for. The last day we hit Dutch Wonderland, saw Hollywood and visited a old friend.

Looks like you all had a great day out Shawn: thanks for the pics.

Shame about the high priced train items.

There's a guy here in STL who still has three brand new LGB F7s for $1000 apiece :D

And it’s good to see no. 90 looking good–she just got back from her first paint job in many years.

That’s Rooster’s… Glad you enjoyed the trip, Shawn. My wife and her girl friend were up at Rockvale on Monday.

Oops, my bad.

Shawn, glad you all had a wonderful time… thaks for the pics…

That’s a fun trip. We did that whole bit in '95. Been back to Strasburg a couple of times since. Check out the PA RR Museum across the street when you can spend some time … send Mom & the kids somewhere else - it gets boring fast for the little ones, including pre-teens!

And from that trip it was heard that the wife would rather buy shoes than trains. So I think it only fitting that Shawn build a shoe train to change her interest    What say ye gentlemen ( and no I ain’t cussing ya)

Cool pics! I like the excursion cars in the first photo.

It is a great place for trains. So much to see and do. After that trip I started thinking about maybe building the Strasburg RR on my layout. Its a simple track plan that I could do on the outer edge of my current layout. All I need is 3 passing sidings one on each end and one in the middle. Then I can attempt to build the pass car and buildings. ight be a fun project. I can even make this battery and use Al. track.

Interesting idea, Shawn.
I’d like to go back to Strasburg. Since my time was limited, Hollywood & I blitzed through there pretty quickly.
Ralph

Take the Shop Tour next time! Well worth it!

They’re currently restoring #20.

Looks like a fun time. Are they running that 2-10-0 ???

That #90 in the pictures IS the 2-10-0

So it is . . . hadn’t noticed the number in the ealier photos . . . nice to see a loco that big getting use.

Shawn, sorry we missed you on this trip. Next time, OK?

I haven’t ridden behind 90 since her shopping. Hopefully soon.
