I sure don’t understand pedestrians getting hit.
You can feel the ground shake when the train is still 1/4 mile away.

I think it said the stroller got stuck. Probably panicked and didn’t think to just pick it up and run.
However, pedestrian/train accidents are a growing problem, and serious enough that Operation Lifesaver has started a new program

I hate to sound preachy, but this is one of my pet crusades. We had some yahoo drive around us to dodge the gates a few weeks ago and missed getting tagged by INCHES (we couldn’t see daylight between the pickup and the locomotive, but didn’t hear crunch)… Easy to writesome idiot off as a Darwin candidate, but it’s still really hard on the engineer, and the idiot’s family - in this case two little girls who not only have to grow up without a momma, but have to remember seeing it for the rest of their lives.
