"Stomper" based Inspection Car

Wife was under the weather this weekend, so I had to play nursemaid. But while she napped, I hacked![;)]

Had a Stomper drive I picked up at Big Lots! a while ago, I wanted to get something built onto it, I had a idea, so given that I had a free weekend (in that I had to close at hand for any requests)I did a mad bash and finished painting it tonight (I still have wet paint on my fingers as I type) Here are construction pics

Heres the drive, I followed an article from several years ago in GR to add the wheels, took a couple tries to get the new drilled holes squared[:I]

Final painted model. Still needs a little weathering, and a dull coat.

Materials are off the shelf styrene products, balsa wood, a pilot from a cheap toy train, two benches from Korber, and a spare Mack hood, give it a try you newbies, these are fun!

VERY nice. I have a handful of the old Stompers in the parts box ready for a project like that…

Very nice Vic.

I have an unfinished Stomper based speeder that ran on Fr. Fred’s pike last Invasion. It ran very well, but I found the speed to be more pleasing with worn batteries. Fresh batteries and they really fly.

What are you using for wheels? If I remember I grabbed some New Bright wheels and axles out of the junk box and somehow got the Stomper gears on the New-Bright axle. The wheels didn’t fit the original Stomper axle.

JR

Thanks guys

Jon, the wheels are from an HLW mincar kit. I cut off the rear plastic axle part flush and used a hand drill and 2 or 3 progressivle larger drill bits to get it where it would press onto the driveshaft. Took a couple of sacrifices to get wheels squared up, a drill press would have helped alot.

Vic,

NICE!

I think my kids have some of these “Stompers” although they are not “Stomper” Brand…are they New Bright? Reason it caught my eye…Eli has a front end loader and he is always knocking the battery door open/off…it latches to the side on the bottom…it appears that is what you are using…is that what you are working with?

Big Lots up the street sells that type in 2 packs pretty cheap!

Thanks,

Been looking for a reason to buy some cheap stuff!

Nice work!
