Stolen scenery trailer

Del Oro Pacific’s huge modular layout scenery trailer for their 80x100 layout that was a main attraction at the convention in San Jose a year ago, was stolen from a storage lot. Unfortunately they probably only wanted the trailer and will probably dump the contents. Sometime s people really suck!

I saw that on FB. That’s really awful. I would have thought the trailer would be emptied after each show but I guess it’s easier to keep it loaded. Any word on how this will affect their show schedule? :frowning:

That’s pretty horrible. By “scenery”, do you refer to backdrops & etc. behind the modules, or the modules themselves? Or buildings & props on the layout?

Regardless, awful.

The architects of hades are probably scratching their heads over the sign name of the new level and section these guys are heading toward… Maybe Level 4, Mezzanine R, Tunnel 10023, Drifts 44-45: People Who Ruin Other People’s Joyful Avocations Out of Momentary Greed, Stupidity, and Just Plain Evility.

By scenery , I mean buildings cars people all the stuff sitting on the actual modules, lots of one of a kind scratch built and kitbashed buildings , several by members who have since passed away. Most all the things that make it come alive, lots of cars were lit up , along with all the building, as of this morning no news on anything being recovered.

I was afraid of that, dang… Thanks for letting us know Pete.

PWROPJAOoMGSaJPE - Now there’s an acronym that rolls off the tongue…

Only 16 chars tho.

Speaking of long words Neil, you made me look this up.

  • Mamungkukumpurangkuntjunya Hill: The longest single word place name in Australia, this 26-letter name is a combination of Pitjantjatjara words that translates to “where the devil urinates”.

  • Bovenendvankeelafsnysleegte: A 27-letter name that translates to “Upper end of throat-cut valley”.

  • Schmedeswurtherwesterdeich: A 26-letter name that translates to “West levee of the smith’s hill-village”.

  • Wereldtentoonstellingslaan: A 26-letter name that translates to “World Fair Avenue”.

Oops, topic drift, sorry Pete

The longest word in English is the chemical name for the protein titin, which has 189,819 letters:
Technically speaking, the longest word in English is “Methionylthreonylthreonylglutaminylarginyl… isoleucine”. That’s the scientific name for the largest protein in the human body, scientifically known as ‘titin,’ made up of over 190,000 letters. Yep, you heard that right!

However, the longest word in the English dictionary is “pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis”, which is 45 letters long:
Just saying

We visited the shortened named Llanfairpwll railway station , also signposted as Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch when travelling through Wales. It is a station on the North Wales Coast Line.

Nice!

And for longest place names, this one in Neil’s neck of the woods, at 85 characters, is a heavy contender. (link)

“Taumata whakatangi hangakoauau o tamatea turi pukakapiki maunga horo nuku pokai whenua kitanatahu”, which translates into English as “the place where Tamatea, the man with the big knees, who slid, climbed and swallowed mountains, known as 'landeater’, played his flute to his loved one.” Locals simply call it Taumata Hill.

And I can see why. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Oh right, the Welsh…

Yeah Cliff, I would hate to be a property developer or realestate agent there.

We also have 148 reduplicated place names in Australia. Most get shortened. Woomba Woomba reportedly got shortened to Toowoomba. (two Woombas)

But some times there is strong resistance to shortening. Wagga Wagga is a regional center in NSW. In fact there’s a song called “Don’t Call Wagga Wagga Wagga”.

Then we have places like Tok in Alaska ,
Then we have the Native American names in Maine and NB Canada :maple_leaf:

Color me curious…
How is the 26 letter name the Longest single word place name when your very next example is 27 letters? Or are we talking language here?

You guys smoke to much for me. The club lost their trailer and it’s a shame that with today’s technology nobody had an airtag or something stuck to the frame.

Well I was hoping to make some people aware of a clubs tragedy losing so much of their display, instead it has tunrned onto something so far removed from the original that I am kind of insulted.

Yea, let’s keep at least this thread on topic, please?

So in a very similar tragic event, a local scout troop had their equipment trailer, burned by some wayward youth. Without being asked all the area troops sent funds to help get that scout troop back up. I’m sure irreplaceable items were lost in the scenery trailer, but maybe our group could help.

Donations of some items might be well received but I don’t have anything good for scenery, engines and cars yes. Maybe a Go Fund Me page? I for one, could help with that. Thoughts?

Apologies Pete. …………

Yes Pete Apologies to the drift.
