Surfing You-tube and came upon this series of videos from A Ross? I always thought of the Stirling as a useless toy. Not so sure after watching this video series. Includes a solenoid controlled track powered A class Climax with Striling motor.
Uh, the power source for much of the electricity on board the international space station is NOT the solar panels, but Stirling-engine powered electrical generators.
So much for them being a ‘useless toy’.

I assume the solar panels on the space station supply the heat for the Stirling generators.
Here is a link for Stirling kits. Some require machining, others don’t.
