I went back on Sunday to take Al up on his offer for a caboose ride. Ended up arriving early and staying late. Starting out at the Railroad Museum of New England’s Thomaston Yards and Shops a little after 8AM I found Al already in the Engineer’s seat of engine 2203. Al invited me up into the cab where one of the members snapped this pic…

We eventually got underway a little after 9AM hauling three coaches and Al’s caboose North to Thomaston station. Riding the cab over jointed rail was a bit like an amusement ride!
Here’s 2203 at Thomaston Station…

Meanwhile, Lehigh Valley Coal 126 was all steamed up and waiting for her train. 2203 dropped the train and proceeded light to tuck into a siding just North of the station…

Sadie makes lots of steam as Al brings her to the station. Note that the left class light is not lit, that’s a camera lens artifact of the headlight…

Soon we’re passing the museum yard and shops where the adventure began. More photos of the collection on the trip North…

The Southbound shove ends just short of the crossing approach circuit for Frost Bridge Road. There we changed direction and headed back North. #126 is so small that you can barely see her at the head of the train even on curving Jericho Bridge…

Here is the promised group of photos from the museum yard. This is all equipment awaiting restoration. No captions as I don’t know much about them…

Getting close to Thomaston Station. This picture is a bit large but I didn’t want to loose any of it. Sorry if it is too big for your monitor…

I did take some more video from the cupola on the second trip. It’s a bit shaky and lots of short clips, so I need to edit it when I get some time. I didn’t take any more pictures on the third run or the return to teh shops. Sometimes it’s good just to put the camera away and enjoy the moment.
Thank you Al and everyone at the RMNE for a great time!
