Steam returns to the Naugy this June

Sadie the Tank will make her first appearance at the Naugatuck Railroad for three weekends this June. I’ve photographed and ridden behind her brother Hank on several occasions. This year they produced a nicely done TV Ad…

I have a wedding to attend Fathers day weekend, but will get up there for one of the other two weekends.

Jon,

Was aware of the ad but had not seen it, thanks for posting. See your inbox.

Thanks Al - Got the message

I’m really getting excited about this. After having to pass up a chance to chase the NKP with Ralph and Ken I really need a steam fix. I’ts not mainline steam, but you can get up-close and personal with this one.

RMNE really lucked out for weather on their first of 3 steam weekends. The tropical storm brought lots of rain but was gone by Saturday morning. Saturday turned out to be a good day and today is shaping up to be spectacular.

I won’t be able to get up there until the third weekend. Am hoping the weather is good.

Have fun, Jon.

I’ve taken photos and videos of both Sadie & Hank.

They both have a fine sounding whistle and make for fine pics & videos.

One of them was at Spencer over the Winter. They had an “Engineer for the Day” program going on.

Wish I had made it up there.

They have a FB page where you can keep up with them.

Ralph

Got some really nice ones of Hank a few years back when they ran a rail fan special.

If things work out as planned I should come back with some unique shots.

That’s a fine shot Jon! Very nice.

Due to circumstances beyond anyone’s control, some unique private charter runs had to be cancelled, so I won’t be getting those special pictures after all. I am going to make it up there Saturday to ride with Al Pomeroy at the throttle. Weather forecast looks great.

Got my steam fix today in Thomaston, CT at the Railroad Museum of New England’s “Steaming with Sadie” event. I arrived early and got some shots in nice light before the crowds arrived…

Al shoved the passenger train about 8 miles South before stopping and returning to Thomaston with the engine in the lead. These shots taken through the trees to the tracks on the other side of the river look like a garden RR…

I rode the Noon train. Part of the package includes a chance to ride for a few minutes in the vestibule at the engine where you can see everything in the cab…

It was quite an enjoyable day. Thanks to the Grambling Locomotive Works and the Railroad Museum of New England for making this possible.

Great pictures, Jon! There is a similarity to a garden railroad for a couple of those pictures. Thanks for sharing. It does look like it was fun.

Wow that did look fer all the world like a Bachmann saddle tanker trundling along…with a really swell smoke unit!

Nice Jon!

Steam locomotives…big or small, I love em all

I’m glad you got a steam “fix”.

I enjoy every steam locomotive chase like it was my first

I’m not sure if it’s Sadie or Hank, but I’ll be chasing one of them at the SC RR Museum this Fall.

Ralph
