Not sure whether this belongs in buildings, prototypes, or what … but I know some here will find it interesting:

I’ve seen this before and still love seeing it again… One neat old mill. tks fr the post.
Matthew-
Many thanks for posting this video.
Any estimates on the age of the equipment and plant?
I’ll show it in my classes (college teacher)-- great example of the many roles two people can have in making a company work.

Thank you Matthew for this video clip.
I have not seen it before but I always find most fascinating any workshop that involves machinery driven by steam.
Sadly current legislation makes it harder to keep these places operating.
Saw this once. What fun to see it again.
Imagine the smell of the place, sawdust, woodsmoke, woodburning!
There is a whole series. Most are in HD and look great on a big screen. They were produced by Rick Marty’s Brother-In-Law if my memory is accurate (very doubtful these days). Search YouTube for MrShoptaw or go here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwRMYIQ89FhDouMEASM5uAA
Right Jon,
B-i-L produced the films over about a 2 year period, I was lucky enough to be gopher, etc. for most of them. Most of the history text on Phillips web page was taken from my book.
In short the Box factory is only one phase of the operation and the newest, being built post WWII, but uses steam equipment from the turn of the century. It was enclosed and insulated in the early 1960’s so that work could be done in the winter. At that time a large diesel generator was added to run the lighting, heaters, and provide electric power for modern equipment like the branding machine.
This generator is the only electric power used on the mill property excluding the modern homes lived in by the owners. These homes have small generators and solar power for household use as the whole property is about 5 miles off any power grid. Oh, wait, there is a steam dynamo off a locomotive at the sawmill used to power grinders etc for sharpening the saws.
Great fun to be involved in these films. Even more fun being invited to the “Phillips Family Reunion” every 2 years when they fire up the Best and Case traction engines and everybody gets to ride/drive them. There is a film about that event a couple years ago on U-T also. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgNkDxTRmRY
The culmination of all the film work on the mill can be seen in this “finished version” of the mill history and productions. Here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGuR3WN8PCs&feature=youtu.be

See what a small world it is? I received the link I posted in an e-mail from a midwest group of (primarily small scalle) model railroad guys … I’d never heard of the place myself. Here, it’s almost a family operation!
